Could someone with access to a Parts Unlimited catalog tell me their part number on a fork seal & wiper pack for an '83 CR250R? This is the number for the pack with 1 fork seal and 1 wiper in the bag. I need to doublecheck some seals I got that don't seem right.

I don't see what you're looking for in the catalog I have. Pro-X lists 2 seals and 2 wipers in a kit, but only goes back to 1989 Cr250, and the only things listed for 83 are pairs of seals, Leak-proof, #7246 or 5246.Parts Unlimited seals skips from 81 to 84 for the Cr250. Off road catalog 2002.

The people I go through have the seals, their web site is in my links,
PN FS4304, $15.99 for the set. Here's the thing though, they are the same seals as the 92-94 seals. So if you need the wipers for them the kit # 15-5058L for $27.99.

Good Luck,
Phillip

Whoops, I hadn't noticed but the user links have been removed;

Thanks guys, for your efforts.

I have done some more checking, and the seals for '83 to '88 CR250 are all the same. The seal and wiper kit I have is from White Brothers, bought from a local dealer. He says they will work, but I am not positive about it. Here are the numbers on the package:

79466 29-218
(0207A) 51490-ML3305
FORK SEAL KIT, 43MM

I do already know that this White Brothers 29-218 seal kit is for a '92-'94 and what I need is a 29-217 seal kit (for '83 to '88), but when I asked the dealer about it he said he crosschecked it and the 29-218 would work - I am not sure he is right.

The reason I was asking about the Parts Unlimited catalog # is that I am pretty sure that this was the catalog he was looking at when he was doing his "crosschecking". To tell the whole story, one of the seal kits was ruined before I ever took it out of the package (long story) so I can't take it back anyway, but would like to know if the other set will work or just buy 2 new sets.

Hey IrishEKU, I was lookin at that TJ Parts Express and that looks like a good site - they don't kill ya on the shipping and handling do they? I am going to get a new factory-like front number plate from 'em for one thing.

83-88 seal dimensions 43x54x11
92-94 seal dimensions 43x54x9.5

The early seals are 1.5 mm thicker.
The 92-94 seals should work fine. A thinner seal, in theory, would have less stiction.

No one offers the 43x54x11 with dust seals other than Honda.

No they don't, you can also specify how you want to ship in the comments box on the online order form. I orbered my top end through them and wen't the 3 day route and no problems. I highly reccommend this "Mom and Pop" organization. Good people over the phone and a user friendly site.

Farmer John, I haven't taken these (conventional) forks apart yet, but looking at the fork schematic on the web, as you know, the seal has a certain space to fit in and is held in, or at least backed up, by a ring on top under the wiper/dust seal. It seems like the thinner '92-'94 seal would kind of be just floating in there, even though it is somewhat of a press fit on it's outer diameter, know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. :)
It has been my experience that a slightly thinner fork seal works just fine. The only time I have ever had a problem was where the OE aplication called for a 13mm seal & all I had was a 8.5mm. That seal lasted about a month & then turned into a gusher.
