Okay, so I started a brand new exercise routine approximately a month ago. I'm walking (vigorously, up and down hill) about 2 miles, 3 to 4 times a week, and doing a full body, 30 minute, strength training routine about twice a week.

This past weekend I rode a fairly easy woods loop for about 1 1/2 hours. Then, come Monday, I started noticing ankle pain whenever I'm on my feet.

I've always had knee pain when I exercise, go up stairs, etc...and I know that's joint/cartilage related and I really should start taking glucosamine (but it's so expensive).

I've never broken my ankles, but I have had a slight sprain in my right ankle before. But...they both hurt equally.

Any ideas for relief? It's more of an annoyance than a severe pain, but it's been going on for a few days now.

After a hard flat landing this year I went into the hospital for lube and inspection. There happened to be an "ankle specialist" there that night. He looked at my xray's and told me I have bone spurs from previous sprains and should be in pain regularly. I'm not but that could be your problem. Just rest it and it may go away.

Ankle Pain

You may have jammed your ankle riding or during exercise.

I recently jammed mine landing off a jump. The landing wasn't that hard but my foot was too far back on the peg.

The pain was on top of the ankle. One session with a physical therapist fixed it right up.

Good luck!

Squeaks, do you think it could be just from exercise - like shin splints on the ankle? Whenever I get to working out diligently, my ankle muscles at the joint always ache, until I continue with the routine for a while.

I once had a pretty severe ankle sprain from a soccer match - like the 15th sprain on that ankle. Anyway, they always healed up pretty quick before, but six weeks post sprain I still couldn't do anything but walk - and that hurt sometimes.

I went to the chiro for a back adjustment and mentioned the ankle to him. He checked it out and moved it around. Turned out I had a bone out of place.

The problem disappeared immediately upon adjustment. Wierd, but true. I would have never thought . . .

Well, it had to have been from the exercise, because the pain has subsided! Thanks for the suggestions guys!
