I just did the top end on an 87 xr200r and sold it to my neighbor.After a few hours of riding it it started puffing white smoke from exhaust and crank case vent now wont run im guessing head gasket any ideas?

On an air-cooled four-stroke those symptoms sound more like a ring failure of some sort to me. It sounds like oil and compression control has been compromised.

I put an hour on it before I sold it to him and then his kids put 4 or 5 hours on it.Do you guys think they could have over reved it and broke a ring?

I've never seen a ring break from over revving on a four-stroke.

Do a leak down test and you'll have a much better idea of what's going on inside that engine.

Did you gap the rings? Insufficient ring gap can cause the ring to break. If the ring is broken in several pieces, that may be the cause.

Tell us a bit about the top end job. Did you bore the cylinder? Just drop in a set of rings?
