New barnett clutch kit doesn't fit

Just installed a new barnett clutch kit in my 99 RM125 and sure enough, it doesn't fit. I mean, it fits but I have to force it in the fingers which obviously isn't right.

The question is this, how can I tell if I have an aftermarket basket on my bike and how do I know what brand without having to take the whole assembly off and would it make such a difference as to fit?

The basket is greyish color and looking through the center hub I can see RM 125 in white bold letters printed on the basket. Any ideas?

the aftermarket baskets are usually andonoized and the stockers are just plain aluminium. it sounds like you have a hinson basket.

if you read eric gorrs book, apparently the only clutch you can run in the RM 125 is stock OEM. the aftermarket ones are no good. if your friction plates dont move freely within the basket, then the clutch wont work properly. i suppose you could file down the tabs on the plates but thats not a ideal option

sorry and good luck.
