Hi the time has come to pull the jug off my 2003 KDX220 and replace this piston its done 2400 miles and I don't know if the piston is stock or not.
Just wanted to ask what you guy thought about bore do you think its safe to put in a new piston (Wiesco) or do you advise scotch brighting the bore to give better oil cover.
Any other help would be great.

The scotch brite trick is just to break the old oil glaze of the cylinder to help the new rings seat properly. Deglazing the cylinder is a necessary step in installing new piston/rings. How you go about deglazing is up to you. Muriatic acid works well if you're brave, scotch brite or SOS pad works fine too with a little more elbow grease.
