I must have thought the teacher said "earl", ..... so I skipped the whole topic. :cool:

But why does the CRF manual call for HP Trans oil at 80/85wt
then follow up with..or 4-stroke oil at SAE 10W-40.... :bang:

Is 80/85 not twice the weight of 10-40...........????

Need an "oil" school.

Honda

The motor and clutch are different on the Hondas, they do not use the same oil to lubricate the clutch because of the possible contaminants that could end up in the motor.

Thus the reason why they list both. 10-40 for the motor 80-85W for the clutch.

I remember seeing that in the manual. Probably somewhat of a typo, but you can use either 80/85 wt or 10/40 in the tranny. The wt spec is different for tranny oils and engine oils. 80/85 tranny oil is about the same as 10/40 motor oil.

Transmission oils have a different rating system than standard motor oils. As a result 80-85w and 10W40 end up as the same basic viscosity.
