Reading the "Off-Road Weapon" thread, it's obvious that a lot of protection will be required. Balancing that with weight, we are looking for your suggestions please?

1) What protection.
2) What material (AL - CF)
3) What brand/model

Thanks for your input... let's build this thing!
We need your thoughts as quickly as possible... once the stuff is identified, we still have to source it, get it and install it. Time is a real issue.

I'd try and find some outfit who could make us some "personalized" aluminum radiator guards. I'd also rather have an aluminum shark fin out back.

Moose has the best skidplates in my opinion...FULL coverage. I think they are made by Utah Sports so I may be agreeing with mylesc?

If this was my bike I would probably not put all the guards on it.
A nice fitting skid plate, I am sure AJ can suggest one.
Pipe guards never really worked for me, if I hit something hard enough to mash the pipe it tended to waste my guard as well.
Shark fins are another ? for me, I usually toss the stock gaurd and forget about it.
Its a cr500 for gods sake, it will be throwing rocks, not being hit by them...

I generall like CF stuff because it seems to absorb impacts and will flex rather than bend. My preference is for a CF pipe guard and CF skid plate (if there is one available for the AFX that fits well).

Billet hardware is my fave. I'm not a fan of any guardware on header pipes. Skid plate, radiators yes.

When I do ride, I'm pretty tough on things and will say the E-line CF skid plate has been worth it's weight in gold! I've even crushed it on one side and looks like torn fiberglass and it still working well( well maybe not in that 1 spot ;) )

i see a lot of votes on the shark fin/ caliper holder..
and its all good.

I feel a bit strange mentioning product in this thread,
but was wondering if those voting are aware we(SH) make basically the same style billet product
for the AF /AFX already.
redfin.jpg

as well as CR500- billet clutch and ignition covers,
all developed because of demand from customers breaking the stock pieces-

and in the specific case of clutch covers - early ends to thier rides.

Please , dont think I am trying to get all SH products on the bike,
there are TONS of quality products to protect your bike out there,
and they will work perfectly well on an AFX.

so vote in what you would really prefer on it!!

I guess i'm just not sure that everyone even realizes we make certain products
that were designed for this bike, by customer demand ,from having an issue with the stock Honda
pieces and wanting something stronger.
*shrugs*
so a link to the SH protective products that we often have on AF's going out the door.
http://www.servicehonda.com/parts/SH_Parts.html

and a thought on pipe guards,
E line is the only company that makes a CF pipe guard
for the AF pipes.
they make them for nbvoth the pro circuit ansd FMF.
I honestly dont want to limit the choices, but as a specialty bike,
not everything will fit properly..

Keeping everything in house would be cool, but like AJ said:

That's impotent to remember I think. That said:
Keep the SH shark fin and billet covers, but add Devol Radiator guards, and full skid plate (The one that wraps around the sides a bit) and the Moose AL Pipe armor. It's a 'B' to get formed and install, but mine has always worked. And trust me I've tested it quit abit.
