Could this possibly calm him down? Seriously, to paralyze a friend due your own carelessness should be enough to change an attitude like Pastrana's... I truly hope.

When I was TP's age (late seventies) I lost my Dad and one of the things he left behind was a 1966 Corvette with a 450 horse 427. I had the keys to it and needless to say I did some pretty stupid things in it. I finally spun it into a ditch at a high rate and damn near took out my buddy and I. I was much luckier in that the car somehow didn't get upside down or get severly tweaked and neither did the occupants. I did calm down a little on the road after that. Travis seems like a great kid, but his adrenalin jones has been costing him and now may have cost someone else. I hope that both come out of this OK and that Travis decides that in the future to only unleash himself in properly controlled environments.

My prayers to Travis and Matt.

A wise friend of my Dad said to me, once he figured out I had petrol in my veins, "Boy, the only thing that car (mine) and a rally car have in common is the ability to crash spectactularly"

Heal well Pastrana, you can't go out of the dirt bike world from a car. But use some damn sense next time, alright. It takes a lot to get a car airborne.

Hope Pastrana's friend comes out alright. :(

From TFS at Motonews:

Travis Pastrana has been released from the hospital already.

Here is where to send cards and letters:

American Suzuki Motor Corp.
Team SoBe Suzuki - Travis Pastrana
3251 E. Imperial Hwy.
Brea, CA 92821

-----------

He also said that the friend, Matt, does NOT have a spinal cord injury but not official reports that he can move his legs, yet. Hopefully soon... :ugg:

Travis needs to take a chapter from KW's life, and just take 12 or 18 months to chill out. If he keeps it up, he doesn't have a chance at reaching 30 yrs of age. Maybe if he mellowed out, he'd get his head straight and realize that focussing on MX pays pretty well. I hope Travis grows up some day before it's too late. I really like the kid's personality...

I feel the same way as everyone here. I think the reason Travis is having such a rough time, however, is because he is having everything given to him. This makes him take it all for granted, like he has nothing to lose. He's got more money than 99% of people, and he's 19!!! And look how many chances hes been given be Roger Decoster. He now destroys pretty much any vehical he drives, not to mention his body. He's got to get a grip and stop taking things for granted. Someday he'll realize that just because he can fork out $50,000 for a new Vette doesn't mean he should drive it like he just hijacked it from the dealership! I'm learning this same lesson and am starting to gett a grip on things, but I've got a long ways to go.

is because he is having everything given to him
I doubt the years of training and racing actually qualify as being "given" everything. Granted, the easier it is to buy a Vette, possibly the less you'll appreciate it, but still...

Years of training.....that was a few years ago. He's barely ridden a single race injury free for the past year or so. How many racers are still given full factory support with that kind of record?

Let me rephrase that...He used to put a lot of effort into his riding. Now, he takes chances and throws it away on a regular basis. Now, people offer him deals to drive cars instead of bikes, still give him sponsors, etc. How many titles has he wracked up for Suzuki and everyone who helps him out? I'm can't remember any since he won the 125s a few years ago. But then again, why try hard to do anything when you get another chance each time you get injured or screw up?
