i have myself an 89 kx80 with transmission oil coming out of the exhaust, i have the gaskets i need to fix the problem but i really would like to not split a case when there are no problems actually effecting performance. so instead i was wondering if i could fit a kx125 engine of the same year in my bike. i know most would recommend just to fix the problem that i already know how to fix, and honestly its my first real play bike (most of my experience has been fixing and selling) so i havent really been a rider. and i assume i should stick with a smaller engine until i feel comfortable. but i cant refuse a better engine if i get it off a project. will it fit?

If you are expecting it to bolt in without modifying the frame then no it won't fit.
If you have decent fabrication skills then anything is possible.
