After about 20 minutes of running (bikes good and warm) it will not rev up. It will sit and idle fine. But once you twist the throttle it sound like the Safty Start button is on. Which it is not. The entire Run/Start/Stop has been disconected. Could it be the coil? Or the Control Unit?
Any Ideas?

My daughters PW 50 was doing the same thing, and when she would let off the gas it would die. A new set of rings did the trick, runs crisp now!

tcarp had a bunch of problems with a PW50. Rebuilt the entire thing. Turned out it was the coils/stators. Replaced those and it runs like a top. PM him if you need more info.

sounds like possibly a problem with the stator. because its only when its hot. warm it up and then spray the stator with a can of the freeze spray you get at radio shack then restart and see if the problem goes away.

I can ohm out our running one for you if you need. Yamaha ought to have the specs too.

I assume you remove the stator cover before spraying? I never heard of freeze spray. Could I do that to the coil also?

yeah you could do the coil also. Yes I forgot to mention the cover. Just go to Radio Shack or Fry's electronics and tell them you need the cold spray. It used to be freon but now its different. Its made for finding problems on circuit boards. You can spray each component until you find the one that is overheated. It sprays like a can of WD-40 with a straw.
