90mm of sag seems to work best (about 3 inches). Front will be considerably less, depending on rider position.

Keith, You need to give us more info;... what are your skills, what type of terrain, and how aggressive you want to get, ect. Normally 4.5" of sag is too much, I see now that your on a 00'250EXC. At 195pnds you will go well over 200 with gear on, so you a bit heavy for the stock springs. But if you are a begginer and dont get too aggresive, then just crank some preload into the rear spring, you want about 3" of race sag, as you improve and start to get more aggresive you will want heavier springs.

Keith, You should be able to go nearly all the way to the end of the threads on the shock body.
Its very easy to remove subframe; Remove seat, release springs that hold silencer to pipe, loosen hose clamp where air box boot fits to carb, take out (4) subframe bolts, and the whole thing comes off in one peice with fender, airbox, and silencer still attached. Now it is much easier to access the shock and check upper and lower shock mounts for wear.
If you are near the end of the threads on the shock body, time to get a new spring, and if thats the case, for an extra 50-60 bucks, send it out to have it revalved and resprung.
