Questions on Fantics

I'm looking at a 94 K-Roo.
It is in fairly good condition like an 8.5 on a 1-10
The owner is asking for $2K.

Is there anything I should check?
Is it worth $2000.00?
What size is it? I have been told both 200 & 240.
Will I be able to squish Patman @ DW02 with it?

Farmer John, I am new to this game, but just went through buying a bike. I would say that $2000 is a little much for a bike of that age, particularly considering Fantics are no longer manufactured (parts are still available though, apparently). I was looking at 2000 models for $2700-3000. Check out http://www.motosoup.com/ There are many machines listed there and at least can give you an idea of price ranges. Don't be afraid of shipping, as it is no big deal with these little bikes (in fact most are shipped by air :scream: ) and is very common. These bikes do not take the same level of abuse as we "traditional dirtbikers" are used to...I mean, they idle for half their lives :cool: So, the fear of "long distance" shopping should not bother you too much.

This is getting a bit long, but if you want more info, I would be glad to share what I have learned...for what it's worth.

Seems a bit steep to me. That kind of bucks would get a pretty nice '94-96 Beta or Montesa which are both still sold here so parts are pretty easy. You may have to poke around a bit but they are there for good prices. If there happens to be any out my way I'll go check them out for ya'.

And no you will not be squishing me at DW'02 unless your on something more like a D9 CAT :)

Hello - Yes you are paying too much for an older bike at US$2000. For that sort of money you could get a 96-98 bike over here. The best thing is to get out to some trials events in your local area. Most people will usually let you have a bit of a putter around on there bike after the trial has finished, so go and try out a few different brands and sizes. Each brand has its own personality and strengths and weaknesses, and its just a matter of seeing which suits you the best. For instance the Montesa has really high gearing and a five speed gearbox, which is really that they've dropped the low crawler first gear that the other brands still have. GasGas seem to me to be a taller bike than may suit you if you are over 5'10" tall etc etc. The other thing is to check out the dealers in your local area, as the support of a good dealer is pretty important. Especially when you consider that parts and service are not as wide spread as for normal dirt bikes. Good luck!

Spending the $$ is a one time event, one you'll soon forget. Later comes parts, service, resale, etc. All of these are issues with the Fantic.

I'd step up a few years and look at some other brands. I sold my '96 beta for $2300 a year ago; would probably go for $2000 today. Parts, service, and resale are much better, not to mention the '96 beta is a better bike than the '94 fantic.
