Quick power valve question

I pulled the cover off of my 250's power valve today, and I was surprised to find it filled up to the overflow with black liquid. I was expecting to find some hard deposits instead... Is this normal? I have never fouled a plug in the 2 years I have ridden this bike.

Yes, normal. Make sure drain tube is not blocked though.

I had the same things happen to me on my 250 but i have fouled a plug or two in the past year (i've been told i haven't been rideing hard enough) Since this is a power valve question thread up i'll ask another question.

If I was to remove the screws holding the valve to clean it is there something inside the engine that will fall loose and i have to open it up?

I have little knowledge on the power valve so any sort of explanation or advise on what to do to increase my performance will be greatly appreatiated

If were talking about a 99 or later model YZ the answer is no nothing will fall into the engine.
