I just did a top end on a 05 CR 250, The manual says to turn the adjuster until the inner lock nut seats against the cylinder. Thats fine, but do you turn the adjuster until the inner nut just seats the cylinder or keep turning the adjuster all the way. I need some hints on setting up the RC valve. Thanks Guys.

The manual stinks on this point. The MXA article is a good starter. When you end up, you should have the smallest amount of slack on the front cable (not quite taut). With the valve actuator turned fully clockwise, there should be about 12mm between the actuator and the bottom of cable adjuster for the back cable. Play with the front and rear adjusters until you get this combo. Getting this right will make a real difference in how the bike runs.

Here's a link to a good explanation. http://www.allthingsmoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24752

Thank guys I have been jacking with it now for some time , man it is a pain. When I get one side adjusted and go to the next it changes the other side. Reminds me of the old pain in the butt the early 90 models were. Has any one play with the adjustments to move the hit in the powerband?

You're right about it being a PIA to get adjusted properly. And the manual, which is otherwise pretty good, is really useless on the subect of adjusting the RC valve. I haven't tried to adjust the valve to change the power delivery, but I do know that after replacing the ring the first time (which was still fully w/in spec) the bike was missing its usual snap. After adjusting the valve correctly, the thing ripped again. I wonder how many people who complain about lack of power on the newer generation CRs are riding around with incorrectly adjusted RC valve cables.

There's a good article in a Dirt Rider from earlier this year about how to do a top end job an 02-05 CR250. They suggested removing the "butterfly" actuator when removing and installing the cables. I wish I had seen that when I did my top end job -- I can see how it would have saved a lot of time and cuts on my fingers.

I couldn't get the cables off until I raise the jug when pulling it off. And when I assemblied it back I put the cables back on before I setted the jug on the block. I get dirtrider I don't remember that article, what month was it in you remember.

Sorry, it was Dirt Bike, not Dirt Rider. February 2005. Eric Crippa of Honda showed a few of the tricks to doing a top end job on the bike. His way of dealing with the cables (again, not covered in the manual) looks like it will make the job much easier in the future, along with knowing how to adjust them properly.
