reed cage question

i recently inspected the stock reed cage on my 96' CR125 engine, and i noticed that it doesnt have the metal pressure plate type thing that screws on top of the reeds to apply backpressure for a tight seal from the reed to the cage. In fact, at the tip of the reeds they arent even touching the cage. Im not sure if any of this is a big deal, but i was told they should make a tight seal at the end of the cage. The last time my bike ran, it seemed to run fine, except for some seriously weak low end.
any thoughts?

If your reeds have pulled away from the reed block they need to be replaced. Hard starting and no low end are some of the problems you might see from this.

thanks, im thinking about getting new reeds and the oem pressure plate or investing in the Delta 2 cage.

If the bike has boyeson reeds on it the original owner prolly tossed the oem keepers when he installed them

ok i understtand now, i thought that the things were supposed to always go on. Yea there are boyeson's on it so i guess il either get new boyesons or the delta 2 thingy.
