There are tons of riding spots. Many of which are closed now till April or so. I am from Pocatello, so I don't know too many spots up that way. Try St. Anthony Sand dunes. I hear that it is semi crusty up there and good riding. Although I am farther than 30 miles, I would be more than glad to show you some supreme riding spots when everything opens up. I will talk to some people and get some riding spots closer to you. Are you primarily a trail rider, or a track rider. There aren't to many tracks around in this portion of Idaho. Are you from Idaho originally?

Clutchcover,

Why should I move to Idaho versus Nevada, Arizona, or Utah? I am looking to move west from Georgia once I graduate with a degree in automotive technology, and I need a town big enough to have some nice car dealerships where I can get a good job, and live on the outskirts of town. I don't really want to live in a subdivision, and I want easy access to some big trail networks. I don't mind having to commute 30 miles or so if the traffic is light. I'm looking for the western state with the highest dirt biking, mountain biking, and 4x4 quality of life. I'm a Southerner, but I don't mind putting up with snow and ice if it nets me a higher quality of life than the one I'm living in Atlanta.

Clutch,
Where I live is the third largest City in Idaho. It's about 57,000. There are quite a few dealerships here, and in the surrounding areas. There are also 3 cities within 50 miles of where I am that have multiple dealerships. Outside the cities here, and inside it is pretty rural. You may not make the same amount of money as you would in Atlanta, but it will be a third of the price to live. The cost of living in most of Idaho is pretty darn cheap. Nevad will be mostly desert riding, and is very very hot. Nevada will be much the same story, but this is all I know of these states. They may very well be what you are looking for. I live near the Utah border, and don't ever desire to live there. There is a lot more people, access to trails is more limited, and the mountains and trails don't seem to be as good as here in Idaho.
I live outside of Pocatello in the country, and I have three different riding areas all within 10-30 minutes. Two of which have probably a total of 300 miles of trails. Maybe more. Travel farther, and there is more just like these.
Traffic in Idaho is always light, because there isn't really that many people. Snow and ice isn't really that bad. The winters put a lot of snow in the hills, but it stays relatively mild down low. Idaho is a great place to live. Any more questions email me. I'll send you some pictures of some riding ares if you want.

I can't access your e-mail for some reason, can you post it here, or just e-mail me at [email protected] with any riding pics and information.

It's not that the trails in Georgia are all that bad, it's just that since 1990s, Atlanta has exploded and it's a long drive to get to any legal riding. Our trails aren't getting closed down due to environmentalists, but to suburban sprawl. I used to have a couple of decent riding spots within 15 minutes of my house, and now they've been lost to subdivisions. Traffic is among the worst in the nation, and I'm tired of all the racial politics. I was in Arizona in December and I was amazed to listen to the nightly news and not hear black people or white people complaining about each other- it was nice to just hear regular news. I don't ride nearly as much as I used to, because it's over 2 hours to the north GA mountains, one of the few legal places to ride, and now I just mountain bike because it's quiet and thus we can have trails in the metro area without getting run off.

I loved driving across the Mojave desert in Southern California, but I can see where the desert would get boring. But for an Easterner, the thought of riding across the desert plains in any direction you want and not worrying about trails is cool. I was surprised to discover that Northern Arizona was wooded, so I'm sure Nevada has it's wooded trails too. I know that Utah lost a few million acres due to wilderness designation a couple of years ago. Still, Moab is a place that I definitely want to ride. I have a KDX 200 and ride mostly woods, so Idaho would be what I am used to. I'd like to get a motocross bike and ride some tracks, but I love the idea of 300 miles of trails to explore on my KDX. I wouldn't mind learning how to ski or snowboard, either, plus I heard the trout fishing, etc, in Idaho is great. I also plan on getting a kayak sometime in the near distant future, so I'd find more use for that in Idaho than in the desert.

What are the women like? I'm looking for a somewhat conservative girl that would like a guy like me with a Southern accent and can go riding with me, but I guess that's what we're all looking for. I can find girls that like that stuff here, but they're all rednecky girls, and I need someone more intelligent. The whole Southern belle and Georgia peach thing is dying out big-time around here and I'm ready to move on.

I will email you some trail picures. I think that if you ever even visit here, you'll see that it is a beautiful place. There is a lot of different terrain. There is even some desert riding. Quite a bit actually. I don't think that you'll find racism a big thing here. There aren't alot of black people, but there are a lot of other minorities, and the news is defintely not anything like it is in Atlanta.
I also ride a kdx, and it is a sweet ride for this area. One of my favorite riding areas is also a ski slope. I will attach a pic later. Almost any outdoor activity i great here. Idaho has the most wilderness in the lower 48, and environmentalists seem to not be as bad as in other states.
The Women here are of a different breed. They seem to be what you are looking for. They are nothing like the southern belles you speak of. In fact, wouldn't mind a southern belle or two up here.
Work is calling, so email me with any question, and I'll try to get some pics to you later.

My self and and another DRN member by the name of Faded live between Rexburg and Pocatello. There are so many places to ride around here its incredible. Try and keep this quiet though, we don't want alot of people to know how great it is aroud here. If you guys want to ride trails, dunes or tracks, we would love to show our places to shred. In fact were going to St Anthony this sunday to ride the dunes. IF you want to email me its [email protected]. :yeehaw: Just so you know clutch, if i drive 10 minutes in any direction I can be at a lake or in the mountains or out in the desert. Yet we still have all the things a bigger city has. Except its still like living in small community. Ever heard of Jackson Wy.? It's about an hour and 15 min. to the east. How about Sun Valley? About 2 and a half to the west. Salt Lake City, 3 hours south. If you start looking at our area, I don't think you would find a better place to live and raise a family. Well enough jabber, if you guys want to ride let me know. :)

You need to come check out Boise, Idaho. We're a 3.5 hr drive from Pocatello. I used to live in Pocatello too. Boise has one of the best trail systems for Moutainbiking in the Nation - right our your back door. Thats been stated in Mountain Bike Magzine about a year ago - the systems even bigger now and keeps getting bigger. I used to race the local mountain bike series but now I'm into MX. Many of the trails are dirtbike legal. Idaho City, 30 minutes up the road, has some excellent and challanging trail riding - they even host one of the 3 ISDE nationals every year. As far as MX goes - OMC - good track, 10 minutes from town; Mountain Home - SX track excellent!!!!!, 40 minutes; Chaparral - 20 minutes - new but decent and getting better; Glens Ferry - winter track, great track, 60 mintues away, lots of desert riding too all over. So we have all typs of riding surrounding us. And then if you have a boat, there's Lucky Peak, Arrowrock, Blackcanyon and the Payette River - all within 30 -40 minutes.

Plenty of car dealerships here too. Look them up in the Qwestdex online phone book.

The Saint Anthony sand dunes are extremely fun! Cant wait to go back there!

Hey CLUTCH thanks for posting your own post in my post jackazz. Next time go make your own post. I was asking questions about places to ride, if u want to find out good reasons to move thier make your freakin post or better yet actually use some common sense. "are there any dealerships up there", wtf do u think smart guy? Its a pritty big state its bound to need to dealerships to sell cars. Use your head on this one. Bottom line is, i don't appreciate checking my post and all my replies are not addressing what i initially asked. MAKE YOUR OWN POST NEXT TIME. thankyou.

*CLUE* <- thesaint, this is for you!

It is pefectly acceptable, even preferable, that people post related questions in a thread rather than starting another one asking about the same place.

What is NOT acceptable is your style of posting. Change it, leave, or get escorted out.

...but my favorite (this really is funny...kind of like me calling other people fat):

I don't know what the hell all that was about. I'd love to move to Idaho though. All those trails would be fantastic. Down in South Carolina you pretty much have to ride the enduro series to get a really long trail ride. At least that's how I feel about it.
I agree about the girls here to. You have either southern belles who won't do anything fun outdoors, rednecks, or wierd alternative chicks who also want do anything fun outdoors except maybe hiking or some other enviro sport they read about at the coffee shop. Plus the white/black thing pretty much splits the whole population in half. Of course, not everyone is like this but it seems like a pattern many people fall into.
I've lived in the South all my life and there is allot of things I like about it but if it wasn't for some close family and friends I'd be gone to Idaho in a heartbeat.
