C'mon out Eddie, we need more orange bikes in the mix!

TwistNShout---when you exit the 15 northbound to the 138 look directly across from the off--ramp and just to the right of the northbound on-ramp and you'll see a dirt road that runs parallel with the on-ramp. You take that road approx. 1/2 mile. You'll cross under at least 2 railroad bridges. There's a big green port-a-pottie at the staging area.
From the staging area you continue up the road which will cross up under the freeway and into the mountains. You can ride either the fireroad or the trails that criss-cross it.
Of course if you want the guided tour than you'll have to hook up with one of the crew!

KTMboy:

Thanks for more detailed directions. We both had today off and weren't too sore from yesterday & decided to pack up the bikes & head out to the dez again. Of course, once again.....this time from the fwy, we were looking for this "close" riding area which we could not figure out, but we DID see the outhouse.....I think we are getting closer. :-)

I'm not totally into fireroads, but I LOVE them FAST, tight, single-track trails. When I am following my husband, I tend to call them our cat & mouse game. Of course I catch him from time to time, but I think he lets me. :-)

EDDIE: Has Aimee rode these trails & if so, how did she like them? Just curious.....I always felt comfortable riding with her & the other DRN "chick" Californian riders.

Oh yeah, are there any other DRN "chick" Californian riders going on this ride? If so, I may reconsider. I just don't want to be the only female in the bunch...... just let me know the 411. Thx.

Rex (Dez_Racer): Are you, the youngin (sp?)....., aka, Mr. Adorable, & Ms. Angie going to the Reno Ride? I'm still trying to talk Mr. T into it. We are still die-hard riders no matter what the weather conditions, and we are even more serious than before, our new year's resolutions were to quit smoking & drinking which we have pretty much made like a good block pass.....we've made them stick, but dropping these pa-R-ty habits have definitely made us better riders, etc. We ride minimal of once a week, and Mr. T is now racing Moto-X instead of Dez racing. The races are every other Saturday at all the local tracks.....give us a call if you are interested or go to www.ROTMX.org. This past Saturday (the 17th) was his first Moto-X race and my first one (his second) will be the 31st......they acutally give away REAL trophies, not plaques (sp?). You also get your results the same day, not three to four weeks later.

You guys and gals all be safe and have fun, we miss you all!

T&S----I thought I might add: you unload at the P/P, ride the fireroad up to the ridges and you'll see marked trails at the top. If you go to your right the trails are easier, (a good warm-up), and to your left will eventually lead you to the famous sandhill. You'll know your there if after cresting one large sandy hill you realize you can't see the bottom! If you happen to venture down the sandhill and can't make it back up there are trails to the left which go around the hill.

There's a really fun super tight twisty enduro trail that leads back from the sandhill, but I would have to take you there as it branches off several times and any wrong turns lead down into residential areas. My son can get through there on his 125; there's nothing super steep there, just very tight, sometimes rocky canyons. The only hill he can't make out there is the sandhill.

If a big group shows up we generally split into two smaller groups of 'A' and 'B' riders. We all meet up at the sandhill to watch the carnage, then ride over to a little hilltop restaurant (near the Wrightwood cut-off) for a burger. From there it's back to the trucks on the enduro trail.

I hope this sheds a little more light for you on what to expect.

Haven't had females on our rides to date. I don't think there are any on this one.

TwistNShout if it wasnt for my 18 year old daughter having other commitments Id have her come along as well. At least that way you have a partner. Shes a pretty good rider and loves to race Adelanto. Next time we head out, if you decide to come, Ill bring her along. As for the Sandhill :( that darn thing destroyed my engine over New Years. A definate E-ticket down the hill but great fun to climb.

Im still waiting on a cylinder and a radiator. Its going to be real close if I can get it before the weekend is out. If I do go Ill have to leave early though (noonish). Kims has a concert Sunday afternoon, which doesnt help things. Maybe I can borrow the sons 125 to pull my butt around for the day.

The 125 might work you on the hills, but I bet it would be a blast on the tight trail!

TwistNShout.

I'm afraid you will have to fight Carlo for that position. For some reason, he likes to bring up the rear. :scream:

You are more than welcome to join us. We have had the ladies join us on our Gorman and Big Bear rides. (Pre-elk days.) We have all talent levels in the crew from the really fast guys like the Bunster all the way to the 'back of the pack guys' like Carlo. I'm sure you will fit in there somewhere.

Like KTMBoy mentioned, there are optional trails to the tough one's and plenty of help if you need it. If the group is big enough, we will split it into two groups. We keep a pretty close eye on everyone in the group and we always manage to get everyone back to their truck. We did try to loose elk on the Miller canyon death ride but, somehow he found his way back.LOL.

Come on out, you will not regret it.

Eddog. Did you buy that plane ticket yet??

I'm coming mister and I'm bringing hell with me!:yeehaw: The only reason I run to the rear is to ward off those pesky coppers. :)

Yeah we've had to use ELk for all our fun.I have to give him credit, he does the squeel like a pig routine well. Though he doesn't have that purty of a mouth and his mustache tickels :moon:

To correct KTMboy. We split into A and B riders then there is always the Elk class. When he gets tired he used to blow up his Zuki regularly, it seemed almost on purpose. His WR400 can take more of his abuse, so now he's actually had to finsh the rides. :worship:

Re the sand hill, Da rat used to make it on his whipped 125. Sometimes, not always. Of couse, it looks like a freeway on my KTM 3Honey. :aj:

Thanks again everybody for the invite, but I do not want to be a handicap to anybody. Thanks also for the directions to a close riding location that I will no longer be a stranger to. I very much appreciate all the great info, including the info about getting an Adventure Pass, where to park, the easy routes, etc.

Boodac, I will watch for future rides that you and your daughter may be attending so that I can have somebody to ride with, thanks!

Mr. Luckey, do you & Aimee still have the dog you rescued when we were at Kennedy Meadows? If so, how is she/he? You two are a very kind-spirited couple and a great loss to So Cal.
