Riding in Ventura County?

Does anyone know of any riding areas in or near Ventura County? I recently got back into riding and have been going out to Hungry Valley (Gorman) but am looking for something closer. I am aware of the Piru MX track and plan to try it out but prefer trail or desert riding to a MX track.

Ortega and Rincon trails, try those.

Never ridden either but would not mind hearing takes from people who have.

It's not closer to you than Gorman, but Ballinger Canyon has a network of trails. It is in Santa Barbara County. If you take Highway 33 north from Ventura or Highway 166 west from I-5, it is about 3 miles south of the 33 & 166 interchange, on the east side.

If you follow the link below with a map of California riding areas, Ballinger is USFS area #18. I'll guess it has about 70 miles of trails including 30+ miles of decent single track.

I grew up in Santa Barbara and one of the highlights of my youth was the weekend trips we used to take to Ballinger. I haven't been back since the early seventies though.

Is anyone planning a Ballinger ride? I'd like to go back and revisit the place. Let me know.
