ok On my 2002 YZ-250

the other day I noticed I could drive it aroudn a little while holding the clutch lever. Also, if I was stopped and dropped it in to first, it would stall unless I started moving.

It was fine a few days ago....I have not played with anything since i got the bike a week or so ago.

I played with the lever micro adjuster. If I crank it tight... I got to the point where I can let it all the way out in first, and it wouldn't engage. I backed it off a few turns and now it jumps and stalls as soon as you put it in gear.

Do I just need to find a happy medium on the adjuster, or could i have bigger problems?

Have you put fresh oil in the trans? Maybe a different brand?

Maybe the weather changed a lot now your jettings off and the bike has a little less power?

messed clutch ????

this is for my 2002yz250

ok so the other day I noticed that my clutch wouldn't "engage"
that is to say the bike would try and move with the clutch lever pulled in.

I fought with the cable end adjuster, and if i cranked it up, then the clutch wouldn't disengage when i let go of tyhe lever. ITs one extreme or the other.

I've drained the tranny oil, it came out grey...not metallic or anything....just flat gray....like gray paint.

I've pulled the clutch apart and put it back together. the pads on the friction plates seem thick enough, and everythign is in good shape. the discs between them are good too, and you can see the little dots on them.

I've put everything back together, it is the same problem. You can see the clutch basket push out no problem with the cover off. the springs are within thier wear limit

I was wondering about plates sticking to each other. they seemed to stick a little bit when i pulled them out and pick them up off the bench....i think that is just due to the oil stuck between them causing a vacuum. I added fresh oil (Honda HP Plus 80W/85 trans oil... i think there was 10W30 in there before?) of course maybe it just needs to work itself through the sytem?
could i have a problem on the gear side?

when i put the clutch basket back on, i used the brake on the rear tire (with the bike in gear) to hold the clutch from spining so I could tighten the spring bolts, the clutch would turn 1/5 of a turn before it would start to drive the chain to the back tire. I don't knwo if this is normal or not.

When the basket wears out, it gets a groove in it where the fiber plates contact it.
Theese grooves keep the clutch pack from expanding when you pull in the clutch.
