Should I sell my 250 2-stroke?

Ok I have an older kx250 (99 model) which looks and runs great. Most of my riding is at the track and when I race with guys I enter the D class and usually finish mid-pack.

I've ridden a YZ250F a few times and loved the power but the reliability and cost of reparing a blown motor scares me. If I were to buy a 4-stroke I would probabaly get a second hand RMZ450.

But pragmatism stops me from doing anything more than thinking about a new(er) bike. I could keep my kx and have the suspension revalved and maybe even replace all the plastic and powder coat the frame too.

I really want a 450F and have seen a few for $4000. I could swing it but I'm not sure I would be using my money wisely. Is it a waste to spend that much on a newer bike if all I'm doing is racing locally (in the D class)?

would you have more fun on a newer bike?? is your current bike reliable? after you answer those you might have your answer

Why not just buy a newer 250 2t? It will be quicker than your current bike and won't cost you nearly as much to maintain.

A 4 stroke 450 that costs $4000 will proboly need a top end rebuild, This will cost more mony... I would buy a new 2t or fix up the one you have now...

Or you could look for a great deal on a brand new leftover '06 KX450F. That bike hauls and all your riding gear will still match.

But would I really need a newer bike to be competitive in the D and C classes? If I'm only buying something newer just for the sake of having something newer then clearly I should keep what I have for now.

Nope. It might help a little, but practice will help a LOT more.

I'm on an 02. Will I buy a newer bike when I can afford it? Yep. Will it make me any faster. Not noticably. My 144 overbore kit helped a little in certain sports on the track, but it didn't fix low corner speed.

I suspect the suspension work f/r would help your speed as much as a newer bike.

If you like your 250 smoker, why not get a newer 250? You might be surprised how much harder you can go on a biker with some more current technology.

you wasting your time on the D "beginer" or C classes to get a newer bike some plases C is still beginer class.

unless your finding yourself losing the race in a fast Junior/noice class cause of the bike which probably won't really happen those classes are more skill then anything.

you won't instantly win getting a newer bike freshen up your ride maybe even take some MX schools and dail it in more with the suspenion revale.

Just go out n ride and if it helps you can say see I beat you on this old pile maybe you should give that to someone who can ride! :nener:
