what is this "base ball" of which you speak?

It's a game for people who's parents wouldn't buy them a bike or play football and wanted them to do something 'safer'.

pro baseball is fun to watch in person, horrid on tv.

I agree that going to the ballpark is fun while there's a game going on, but actually watching the game? To me it is just as boring as when on TV. But, the food, the sights, and the atmosphere are much better experienced in person. I don't think I'd ever pay to go on my own, but my company does afternoons at the ballpark as 'team outings' and it is better than being in the office.
