recently i have been letting my dad use my xr80r to learn to ride. i know the bike is way too small for him, but he is well under the max capacity and he NEVER goes more than 20, and the spokes keep breaking on the rear wheel. i have had the tire off more times than i can count. what is happening. is there too much pressure on the wheel, or do i suck at tentioning the spokes.

You suck at tensioning spokes. Our XR80 has hauled my +200# butt around at well over 20mph over some pretty rugged trails and zero issue.

It might not hurt to have it put on a truing stand. Hard to say what's wrong at this point.

if i find a square driver bit that fits into the nut on a spoke, and i pull the tire off, could i tention the spokes with a drill by adjusting the clutch on the drill and just going around the rim and tighening opposite spokes or will this screw everything up.

Considering I have no idea what has been done to this point or even if the rim is our of round I'll stick by my last suggestion.
