Spring replacement......the cheating way??

I am replacing the front springs with .46's on my 300 MXC and was thinking about just leaving the tubes in the triple clamps and taking the caps off the forks, swapping the new springs with the old.

Are there any problems I will run into doing this? I'm sure I will have to unmount the handle bars to do it. But this seems easier than removing the front tire and the forks.

Pros/cons.....any real problem with trying this?

Kawi125 mantioned this but I wanted to emphasize that you need to loosen the top triple clamp bolts. They clamp the tubes down tight on the caps if you don't loosen them. Also (of course) you want the front tire dangling free of the ground when you loosen the clamps.

Sorry if this is all obvious. My first fork experience found me popping one side of the fork open on a street bike thinking the other would hold it. I became educated in a hurry. Do you know that if you compress streetbike forks enough the bike will fall off the sidestand?

Is there any way to do this on Showa t.c. forks? 2001 cr250

According to the manual, you can't, but I thought I would ask anyway.
