Starting Problems With Yzf426 Yamaha??

I just bought a 2000 Yamaha 426yzf and im having problems starting the mutt the previous owner says to press the kicker till you hit a hard point press the decomp leaver, let it go along with the kicker n then kick it n it should start but youll have to get use to it ???? WTF?? is it always this hard to start a 2000 Yamaha 426yzf? and any other tips to get her goin?????

Sounds like the proper procedure for that bike. My buddy has a 400f (first year they came out), and I REFUSE to kick that bike. He describes the steps pretty much like you listed above. I will stick with my low-compression YZ 250.

They start relatively easily once you get the hang of it. There is a hot start knob on the carb, you'll need to use this to start the bike when it's hot. Later models relocated it to the handle bars. Later model bikes also have automatic decompression releases built into the cams. You can swap in the later model exhaust cam and do away with the whole decompression procedure and lever.
