I just put a 11 oz. Steahly flywheel weight on my 98 YZ250. The spacer they gave me doesn't even come close to fitting . I need about another 1/4 of clearance to make it work. It looks like an aftermarket cover is the only remedy. Does anyone know which one will give me the clearance I need? Or maybe another way of getting around it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I would call Steahly direct and ask them about a fix.Maybe you got the wrong spacer.

I have a lathe and I made a flywheel weight for one of my bikes, it hit the cover. I had some plastic 3/16 thick, I think it was an old mud flap, so I put the gasket on it and spray painted an out line of the gasket on it and cut it out with a jigsaw in side and out, to make a spacer. It wasn't enough so I made another, put them on with longer bolts worked fine. Are you sure your weight is on all the way? Good luck Ed.

This sounds stupid, but make sure the flywheel is on all the way. The small woodruff key is easy to get out of position on these bikes.

BUT>>>>the weight should have been supplied with a spacer if one was needed. Also, sometimes the weights go on the INSIDE of the YZ's. My 97 does. The weight barely clears the electrical parts, but it does.

Unfortunately, I'm positive the weight is installed right. The flywheel is almost flush against the case. On this weight it is meant to replace the nut that holds the flywheel on. There is a larger outer lip on the flywheel that the weight tightens to via allen screws. It's even the right one since it's marked on the packaging. I thought I saw on these forums someone else who had the same problem but couldn't find the thread again. I'm a little irritated at Steahly for not mentioning this but it would take a much deeper cover then stock to give the flywheel enough room to spin freely. Guess I'll just have to give them a call on Monday. :(

I understand. The weight shoudl have came with the proper spacer. Their kits are packed that way. I would check with whomever you bought it from.

But, you'll love the weight. It was the best mod I ever installed on my yz. I have a 6. 9 and 11 oz. I have used them all, but much prefer the 9 or 11.

OMFG!!! Upon second inspection it turns out I'm a total moron. I looked at it again today because I couldn't believe a company with the reputation of Steahly would sell a product that doesn't fit.It turns out there is a washer that sits deep in the flywheel that I missed the first time. It fits perfectly now.
