Steering damper for '03 220

I understand that not all of the steering dampers on the market fit well on the KDX. Which ones are a good, bolt on, well fitting and performing option.

The WER damper fits with no problems and works great. I have heard of people having problems with the Scott's due to the KDX turning too sharp for the tower on the Scotts. It seems the Scott's tower reaches its limits before the KDX hits the turning stops. The GPR is made a lot lile the Scott's but it was not metnioned that this damper has probs with teh KDX. DO a search here and you will find a post about steering dampers with more specifics.

Did'ja notice the pic that dan (acutemp) posted of a CR with the 'new' scotts mount? It was mounted right where the WER mounts. Dan said he didn't think they had a kdx mount kit yet for that option.

If you're interested in the scotts, be sure to look into that option. Beats buying a top clamp, a set of handlebars AND the damper to the tune of $550 or so.

Yep. The WER fits on the kdx fine. I'd prefer the hi and low speed circuits of the scotts, but do NOT want it on the top of the bars.

I'm not sure yet what it is, but my riding buddy's scotts on his ktm seems to do a better job than the wer on my kdx. I've got to do some back to back 'testing' on the same trail section with the wer completely disconnected maybe to get a true 'what it used to be like' point of view.

That's the way it was with $700+ of suspension work. I didn't realize how much difference there was until I could ride another like-modified kdx...with the suspension exception. THEN I was convinced it was a pretty good investment.

I talked to Scotts recently. They don't have a lower KDX mount and they aren't likely to because it's not a "popular" bike.

You might not need new h-bars for the Scotts.

Canyncarvr, you may be able to use a Scott damper on your WER front mount ,since the Scotts has the lever on the bottom you can simply make up some riser blocks out of some aluminum and attach them to the WER plate on the fender to raise it up so it lines up with the linkage coming off the front frame tube.If the linkage rod is not long enough they can be be also lengthened.The rod ends used have a common thread and you may need just a piece of rod to lenghten it.
I am checking into a damper right now and they all are good,I can't remember the last time I've had such a hard time deciding on what brand to buy. :confused:
