I've had mine since March,2000. E-model with no serious problems. I have had to replace my rear wheel spacers but Alabama mud is pretty abrasive. More power is lurking within if your familiar with rejetting. Wouldn't trade mine for anything as far as trail riding goes.

new bike prep

congrats on deciding on a DRZ great bike i love mine.
If your askinfg about things to do here is a list of what i have done

1. grease your rear linkage most guys bikes are dry.

2. pull the snorkel out of the air box leaving a 3x3 hole.

3. drill your exhaust tip out wiht a 1 3/8 inch hole saw and if you want to your first baffle.

4. take out black box on the right side of the box and replace it with a "t" fitting using extra hos e of course and put a check valve on it in case you get stuck starting the bike with the hose under water. When starting theengine actually draws air in those tubes.

5. remove octupus thing from the left of the carb.

6. time your accelration pump

7. replace needle with ekp needle and rejet carb

8. replace key switch with durable waterproof switch
(necessary after losing key)

9. heat and bend radiator shrouds to keep them from getting caught on branches and getting ripped off. IF you don't get it before you do rip them off black ones look really good on it.

This is what i have gotten to in the three weeks i have owned mine. the carb and airbox remods really put some kick in the bottom and overall. Getting the damned key out of there helps with dashboard space for timers computers etc. and the rest just makes it easier to work on it. If your freind happens to weigh in the 200 plus range he might wish to make some suspension mods but
us 180 pounders riding east coast enduros find the suspension very good.

p.s.

alot more details can be found at thumpertalk.com about these mods just look up jetting and a member named taffy and you'll have plenty to read.
I know it might be bad form mentioning another web site but since most guys are as avid about reading these sites as I am you'll spend plenty of time on both so i don't suspect they'll mind much.
