hi folks i have a 1980 yz 100 that the neighbors can hear for a country mile! nobody seems to make an aftermarket silencer for it so i cut and repacked & rewelded the original (you can only do this so many times) does any body know of another make/model bike that is really quiet that would fit & be repackable? i have also read about people wraping there expansion chamber with inner tube, is there any truth to this. my first thought is that it would melt! any ideas are welcomed i dont race i just use it as a trail bike & keep the neighbors happy

you could try an old dt125/175 spark arrestor/silencer. theyre a bit big but REALLY quiet, woods legal and dirt cheap used. i tried one on my old cr80 and it worked pretty well and was crazy quiet.

thanks, what do you think about the tire tube idea
it'll probably make it quieter, but it will probably also make it stinkier as it melts to the exhaust pipe.

If I recall correctly, DG used to make repackable aftermarket silencers for vintage bikes. I'm not sure if they still do, or if they've abandoned the bikes and decided to stick to the ATV market.
