TTR225 realy that bad?

Is it realy as slow and unpowered as people say? Yea I know its a hevy bike at 260lbs. I never rode it and my dad wants me to figure out what bike I want. I have a YZ100 and am thinking going frome this to a 4-strok 225 woud be almost down sizeing? But i want a 4-strok. Should I get a TTR125L or TW200 in sted? I'm almost 14, 120lbs and 5'7". I want the 125L but he says it to small i dont no?? I'll ride them all this summer see witch i like more! But plese tell me what you think about theese bikes! :confused:

try a 250 4 stroker ttr250 xr250 drz250 whatever. you will not find the suspension adequate on the 225

Why not go with the TTR250 or DRZ250. Both bikes are very similar and are in the same price range. Both are only and inch to 1 and 1/2 taller than the TTR225, but at 5'7" you should be able to handle it. You also get upgraded brakes and more suspension travel on the 250s verses the 225. There is not much difference in the motor size. Both are lighter by at least 10 pounds and the DRZ has a Kick and electric starter. I think the Z also has a external oil cooler as well, but I think its a wet sump design and not a dry sump like the TTR. I would look at either one of those before the 225 you would be much happier. If the price range is the thing why not look at the YZ or WR250F?

Yeah, I don't know how Yamaha sells TTR225's when they have the TTR250. Go figure. If you wanted to go blue, and do it without breaking the bank, I'd look into the TTR250. Of course there is always the YZ/WR250F's, but that might be a bit much coming from a 100. I'd also consider a KDX200, or 220. Great bikes, but not 4 stroke like you want. I'd give a 220 a good try before I ruled it out.

KDX is a good choice as is the KLX300 if you want 4 stroke. Think of the KLX as a better XR250 -- more power, liquid cooled, upside down cartridge forks, etc. But still low enough seat height for 5'7" (I'm 5'8").

As a owner of a brand new TT-R 225 i can say they are deffently not underpowerd or slow. I have read some actrclies saying thier top speed was around 90MPH. They are heavy though and do lack good suspension. I've ramped mine around 5 foot high in about 3rd gear and have yet to bottom it out though. The biggest down side to the bike is weight at 260 some odd pounds it's pretty damn hard to pick up when you lay it over espicaly if it laying down hill. It basicly depends on the what you want to ride on what bike you want to get. I ride lots of tight trails and it is great for that but if your into harescambles/MX well basicly anything but trails this isn''t the bike for you. i would recomend the TTR225 and the TTR250 seems tehy would be good bikes for you. If you want a little more though maybe a YZ/WR250F.

A WRF or YZF is a LOT more, not a little more. Have a friend with a YZ250F and it's kind of like driving a top fuel dragster in a neighborhood. Not a lot of lowend like the other bikes already mentioned -- it wants to rev, which is not my idea of a nice bike for woods or technical trails.

The KLX300 is one of the lighter, better handling thumpers out there. Very underrated and can be picked up for a great price. It's a bike that you can uncork and make a few simple bolt on mods to amp up as your skills increase. Do a search on KLX300 as there's been lots of great threads on this and other bikes for people in your situation. Best advice is to narrow your selection down and ride the finalists, since the best bike for you is the one you're most comfortable on, not what a magazine or other rider in a different part of the country tells you.

althoe i dont race i would like a yz or wr but i dont want a 2 strok. and $6000 it a bit much!i tried telling my dad that the 225 is a hevy bike i think i will take a look at the DRZ and klx's i dont know how much $ they would be about. I'll keep looking but i wont be getting a new bike for about a year. i want an MX style bike even thoe i dont race any other help or bikes i should try, go ahed and tell me!!:)

YZ's are 2 smokes, YZF and WRF are 4 strokes (F for four). Not only are they a lot more money but what I meant was they have a lot more kick.

All the bikes you mentioned and some of the replies are more enduro/trail bikes than MX bikes. MX bikes tend to have good but stiff suspensions and are maxed out in engine. The enduro bikes are a good compromise as they have good suspensions and smoother, more tractable power delivery. The TTR225 is really a playbike, not even something you'd run a harescramble or enduro in.

Kawi dealers will deal on new KLXs and you can really get some good deals on used ones. Any KLX300 from '97 up is a good choice. With XR250s, anything from '96 up is what you want. Can't speak for the DRZ's as I just found the power/wieght not worth it, though many do like the e-start DRZ400s.

KDX 220!!

Ive only ridden one once but thats all it took and now I'm getting one soon! They're light, smooth, and have instant power. The one I rode had a few mods but they dont cost too much.
