Not sure which forum this belongs in, but I just purchased a 06 KX100 and a 06 KLX110 Saturday night. They were stolen out of my garage last night. Not even a day after I brought them home. Busted the side door into my garage while we were sleeping and took both bikes. :( I doubt they will ever be seen again but if anyone hears anything please let me know. God I hate theives!!! :|

Man I'm sure sorry to hear that. I live in the Tampa area also, what part of Tampa are you in? I'm in Brandon.

I'd assume it's someone you know if they stole them the day you got them, someone you or your kids told about it, maybe even someone in your neighborhood?

Thanks guys, my homeowners will cover it with a $1000 ded. The sheriff was out here and forensics and took prints but I I dont think they got much if anything, but they only took the bikes nothing else. The only people that knew where i lived was the dealer I purchased them at and it almost feels like a inside job in that respect, but I really dont know who did it. Whats even more scary is that they could have easily got into my house and took our kids..

wow bud that sucks big time, may sound kind of odd but i would look into where you bought the bikes from. I have had two seperate friends that bought new bikes from from two different shops get there bikes stolen within a few days of buying them and it ended up being related to one of the guys who worked at the dealership. Best of luck to ya

I hope they're looking into that shop (assuming you're certain no one else knew you had the bikes, not even the kids told anybody? I'm only raising this question to help you think of who else may have done this). There's no way someone who didn't know you had the bikes coincidentally broke into your house the day you go them and then that's all they took. Can they background check the employees at the shop? I'd bet the owner there would be interested in helping?

There is a detective coming here this morning to talk to me about the theft. I will be telling him everything I can to help get these guys that stole my bikes. Unfortunately I know dirt bikes are not a priority with police because there are more serious crimes to deal with. But hopefully someone will come forward that saw or knows something.

total suckitude, my friend. I would hope your agent would fight for you, as I believe my homeowners covers all contents (except a car, of course, which has its own policy).

The only way the insurance weasels should be able to weasel out is if you did not list them on your homeowners before they were stolen, which may be the case.

No matter what, someone deserves to be pummeled, and I hope you find the bikes.

This may require a tirade on your part, my dad's neighbor had a bike stolen and recovered, homeowners paid for the repairs to the recovered bike.....

But I have heard that if it has a vin they won't cover also.

Good luck man,

Damn the thieves :|

Hmm...
I thought HO insurance covered that sorta thing... I'd better check to see if mine are covered!
BTW I used to live in Carrolwood back in the 80's, lotta little street urchins around there and they kept tabs on who had what.

Crew Cab, do you live on a busy street? Did anyone see you unloading the bikes? Just a couple more things to consider. I was really sorry to hear about what happened.

No, actually I live in a quiet subdivision and it was dark when I brought the bikes home and unloaded them. My wife has scoured the neighbor hood and put up flyers with a cash reward with any information to the recovery of the bikes. I just cant even begin to understand losing these bikes so soon after I bought them. I might have as well flushed the $5500 down the toilet. It hurts really bad knowing I lost all that money and have nothing to show for it. I apprieciate everyones sympathy and I know there is nothing anyone can do to make the pain from this go away. Everyday that goes by and they are not found just gives the theives another chance to move the bikes somewhere else.

You need to read and understand ever line of your homeowners policy and ask several "what-if" questions to your agent. Example: a friend of the family had his detached garage catch on fire and his three snowmobiles and all the tools were covered by his h.o. ins. His 2 dirt bikes and harley were not b/c the bikes were movable, each could have been rolled out of the garage. Yes, the garage was on fire. His agent said if the bikes had the wheels off then they would have been covered b/c they couldn't be rolled out. He said he specifically asked if they would be covered when he got the policy and they were only if they weren't movable. Its a bitch to think what your paying for is going to help recover your loss but it doesn't.

by chance do you have any woods or anything near your place where kids hang out? I would check those areas as well, but it sounds more like an inside job from the dealer since you brought them home at night and such

Thanks guys, I did a whole sweep of my neighborhood on my bicycle going down every street and all the shady areas of town looking for the bikes but no luck. We have posted flyers up with a $1000 cash reward but still nothing. My wife and I have also asked most everyone in the neighborhood but nobody saw anything or has heard anything. Even the high school kids are speechless when we tell them what happened. If it was someone in the neighborhood the kids would have heard something by now. Our son is doing ok, im sorry he had to get a taste of what life can really be like.

I have decided, thinking long and hard about what has happened that the only way to get closure to this and get life back to normal is to buy 2 more bikes to replace the stolen ones. My wife agrees with me on this and said she supports whatever we do to get happiness back in our lives after this. Its hard to swallow over 5 grand and forget about it but its really all we can do at this point. The next time someone enters my home they will have a 9mm to answer to.

Shortly before my wife and I were married someone broke into her and her roommate's house. It was just before Christmas and the thieves had the nerve to steal the gifts out from under the tree (among other things) and even apparently kicked the dog at some point.
For a week or so afterward I sat in the house with the lights out and a pistol in my lap just waiting for a chance to met out a little rough justice! Of course they never came back and eventually the rage died out.
It's times like these that paperboys get shot at, so just keep your ear to the ground, live your life and don't expect a repeat of what happened. It's hard not to be suspicious of everybody around you or to stare maliciously at anyone walking down the street after dark, but that will just mean that the thieves have also robbed you of your serenity.

At any rate, "Lightning never strikes twice", I always say.

Sorry to hear you haven't had any luck recovering them.
I'd buy the bikes again too, myself.

Once you wind up getting them, let me know if you want to hook up sometime in the Tampa area (my son is 10).
