upgrading my computer's cpu

1.4 is not bad, yes other have faster but it shouldn't be locking up with normal use. How much hard drive space do you have left? You could install more memory, a different video card or a second hard drive.
What is is doing when it locks up?
I almost forgot, what version of windows does this computer have?

I had 60gb hard drive and 30gb of free space. I have windows xp home edition.

Whoa, sorry to confuse the two. I shall stand down from now on when it comes to a certified Best Buy tech. :think: Stick with your cousins advice since I'm sure NONE of us on here could hang with him in the knowledge dept.

Calm down man, he gave me the same advice as most of the guys that replied to this thread. New ram, new motherboard, video card, etc... He's a computer technician, he just happens to work at Best Buy. Got advice from him and my dad, they said my hard drive is fine. I rather take advice from them than a guy who says "tech stuff is not my strength...blablabla...well it sounds to me you probably need new memory and a new hard drive...blablabla....I'm not the computer guy around here" Yeah I should really take advice from you since you're not even sure what your talking about. But other than that most of you guys were pretty helpful.

If you want to get by without spending too much money I have an Athlon XP2100+ (1.733 GHz Clock Speed) from an old computer that you can have for the price of shipping. That will give you a little more speed. What speed is your memory? I might have some of that (matching) along with the CPU.

It's a pretty good computer for school work, but I want to play some games and edit some videos. And plus, it keeps freezing all the time.

As I posted before, it was initially to load a whole bunch of games in it. Can't do that with the computer I have now, what should I do? oh yeah....upgrade it.
