angry jim, I really, to be honest, haven't had my bike in the tight stuff yet.  I never had a problem with the 400 like most people do.  I just dealt with the tight stuff by learning how to use my clutch and I never rode with anyone that was so fast they left me behind in it. :)

Where I ride is pretty much like Moonrocks but with more whoop trails and way bigger hills to climb, some of them hard pack and some of them pure sand.  I am not trying to sell anyone a YZ and I would probably say the same about anyother bike I owned, but this bike hauls butt.  I climbed everything there was to climb with ease.  It is the fastest 4-stroke bike I have ever been on and it is 30 or so lbs lighter than my WR was.  The gearing was not a problem with me out at Hagerman.  I have yet to have it on a track here, they are all closed with about 6" of snow on them right now.  Hagerman has a couple of natural terrain tracks that I jumped on and I just need seat time on the 450 to get used to the way it corners and the way it delivers power.  It really feels like a two-stroke.  It pulls hard through every gear as fast as I can go through them with no hesitation, and is brobably faster than my WR was top end.  You best be hanging on when you pull the trigger. :thumb:

What would it take to get a tractor with a box scraper and knock down five or ten miles of the worst whooped out trails? I wonder what it would cost and how long it would last before it got just as bad again? I've seen some other NV riding areas go from slightly whooped to badly whooped as they got more "discovered "

MRANN just received a grant for $60,000 from BLM to buy a new tractor for trail maintenance. We should have it in Feb. I believe. We have knocked down the whoops prior to races in the past. Looks like we will be able to anytime we want now.

Thanks for the info Sir Thumper. I've heard the 450 is really fast.

Flatten the whoops!? Are you kidding me? What fun is that? Let's just go ride around in a dry lake bed :flame:

Oh no, you guys above - Nobody gets out of whoop riding (maybe the ONLY thing I do marginally well). The terrain will remain as in in Feb. We in MRANN have a race that same weekend if we do have the tractor by Feb., it won't be used at the Moonrocks. S0....... whoops it is!

S.T. : "more whoops than moonrocks", is that possible?

I think SirT and Bluethumper will both back me up on this. I thought that Moonrocks had very few whoops compared to what we ride around here. I ride in an area here that has whoops so big you could flip a VW beetle up side down in one of em. I say leave the whoops. They are a great equalizer in abilities. I could take anybody that is uncomfortable or unable to pound whoops and with about 5 minutes of instruction and 1/2 days practice and make them be quite proficient.

I cant wait to see everybody again.

P.S. We are still bringing the starting gate so practice those starts for the uphill drag races.......

Maybe what we need is a trail next to a trail, one with whoops and one whoopless. Kind of a separate but equal trail system. That way everyone will be happy. But some people will just want medium whoops (further market segmentation) so we'll need a third trail to keep everyone happy. Of course with all this grading we'll need a full time tractor operator. Then, there is the issue of union or non-union. And while we're at it, we may want to consider passing lanes, rest areas with picnic tables, shade trees, bathrooms and Hare Krishna's selling lemonade and icecream bars. Where does it all end?

Twenty miles of whoops is almost as much fun as twenty one miles of bowling ball size rocks.

Oh, have you heard of the "bearly surviving" technique? Ya know, it's survive one whoop, get sideways, manage to get straight again, get sideways in the other direction, finally end up in a sad little ball of green mush on the side of the trail. Yup, THAT's the one! :thumb:
