I have a 93 kx 250 that had low compression but still ran fine. I just pulled the top end off to inspect and the piston is still in good shape so I thought I would just do new rings. Does any one know where to get a new set of std size vertex rings or could I use oem kawi piston rings ??

just go to your dealer and look in the parts unlimited book they carry vertex pistons, you can also call pro circuit they sell then as well

Does the Vertex piston have ART cast into it anywhere on the underside? If so, it's probably an OEM piston, anyways. Double check your ring gaps.

It sez vertex and 1120 on the underside, the local dealer can get vertex rings but I guess they are back ordered for 2-8 weeks so I bought a wisceo top end kit instead and it will be here in 2 days.

Got the top end rebuilt - I used the wiseco kit and went well. I check the ring gap and I have .014-.015. I check the old rings for the hell of it and was .035 :yikes:

Since it's apart, why not do the whole top end? To me that's like changing car oil but not the filter.

It's apart, do the piston/rings/bearing, etc. You'll be glad you did.
