i wish i had some jumps and whoops on soem land i have, but I ddont know how much dirt to get, where to put it, or what angles to make on jumps and such,,seems like someone would make a video you could give to a local dirt works place that would show them how to make jumps and whoops, as well as how much dirt to use on a double to make a track wide enough for two bikes.. anything like that available?
thanks.

Where are you at? I'm near Holly Springs. PM or e-mail me a way to get in touch, I think I can help out.

Not really, but I know that on www.901racer.com they were talking about it and someone here (DRN) was planning a ride. They meet at a little truckstop/greasy spoon off of 78 in Potts Camp.

I need an excuse to go to Tupelo, but the next two weekends are bad for me.

It takes a bunch of dirt to build just about anything. I built seven whoops using the technique that is explained on the DirtWerks site. Lay down a pad of dirt as wide as the track and about a foot higher than the track surface. Then you go along and flip the dirt over with the bucket of your loader or BobCat to make each whoop. Works real well.

The angles on doubles are tricky because when you are building them, they don't seem very steep while riding up and down them on a bulldozer. Once you get on your bike you realize you built a wall. So, have a bike handy to check the angles.

I figure a small takeoff for a 20' double can take between six and nine yards of dirt depending on the track width. Build the landings a bit lower, makes the track easier and a touch safer, plus then the landings use less dirt. Probably in the order of five to six yards. It seems like a lot of dirt, but once you pack it down and smooth out the approach and landing area, it goes quick.

Do you get by Holly Springs very often?

Well, I haven't been there either, just saw a thread on heare and 901 racer about going there. I talked to a long-time area rider from the Memphis Motorcycle Club this week as well as the shop owner from Fletcher's. Both said that they have tried to ride Holly Springs but have never had much success in putting together a ridable loop. Lots of two or three mile spurs, but then they had to turn around and backtrack. One guy did mention that he had heard that there have been some improvements and a few guys know of ridable loops. The sad thing is that there are no online guides or information on Holly Springs. It leads me to believe that the actual rides aren't in the National Forest or aren't really supported. The National Forest website lists the trails in the DeSoto Forest but nothing for Holly Springs.

Anyway, if you want to give me your number, I'll call you and give you directions to my place so that you can see my track and how I've designed my jumps.

hi moore,,,,
tupelo is a small town of about 36000.. i guess the thing to do here is go out to eat at all the new restaurants around our mall area, like applebee's and the like....we are weak on night life here. fishing and riding dirtbikes are fun, we have an area called natchez trace lake over in pontotoc county about a 20 min drive from tupelo on hwy 6 west. there is a rough track out farther on 886. (mx 886).
i tell ya, while your down, go up to memphis and walk around beale street, its like a little new orleans. we have some casinos south of memphis and a nicer one in philadelphia ms. the coast is about 5 hours away.
Are you bringing a bike? also check out www.djournal.com,, thats our news paper web site.
