water pump

my water pump seal is leaking real bad i got no cash and i was wondering if i need topull the clutch side engine case off to fix it or just the water pump also do i have to drain the coolant

‘Fraid so, but it’s not a big deal. The seal is cheapish & replace the bearing too, you may get away with reusing the gasket. Bad part is if the shaft is grooved it needs replacing or might be possible to repair it with a sleeve (made for repairing this type of seal damage) from a bearing shop if they make the right size.

Don’t leave it pouring water into your gearbox as the gears will be prone to damage with water degrading the protective qualities of the oil.

This may or may not be of help but Kawasaki US site buykawasaki.com has the parts drawings c/w part numbers for KDX’s & most everything else. Not as good as a manual but at least you can see where everything goes.
