What does DRN mean to you?

got to thinking :scream: since we have now passed the 19K mark for members and it only seemed like last month when we were below 2K, wouldn't it be cool if we could recount a short story of what this site has done in your life so the new member might get a glimpse of what we have been through?

for me:

1) helped me make the switch from four to two wheels for off-road riding

2) helped me understand how to ride by other's experience

3) helped me learn how to work on my own bike

4) allowed me to meet with a great group of people who share the same love for the fun I do.

5) helped me to make friends with people I would never otherwise come in contact with in my sheltered life.

6) made me realize there are a lot of extraordinary people still left in this world.

7) helped me understand there are many who still care about right and wrong and who believe in family/country/personal values

8) helped me realize we aren't the weak society the media tries to make us out to be.

9) showed me that anyone who messes with me will have to answer to the wrath of "the family"

10) taught me how to schedule my vacation so I can go to the family reunion (COME ON DW!!!)

OK, I really meant for this to be short but bottom line - Bob, I can honestly say that you are one person I am glad I have crossed your path in life! Great things come from great people, and I hope you realize just how much you have done for us, sir! :worship: :worship:

This is my first post on these boards. I'm on everyday from work reading posts and have been for about a year now. I have gotten a tremendous amount of information from this sigh on everything. I think it's a wonderful sight with a great group of people behind it. Keep up the great work. Thanks-Seth

DRN.....
I always think of all the good people, good information, & great stories, but I always think of gospeedracer on the drive home from DirtWeek 01. She drank a Mountian Dew & talked really fast for quite a while.

It's wierd. All of these good, great, & selfless reasons to belong to DRN & all I can think of is this So-Cal'er talking so fast I couldn't keep up listening. One of the funiest things I have ever seen.

It's like family here.

This place also has reassured me in the fact the most human beings are indeed good people.

It has also shown me an endless source of information, support and of course the not so rare splattering of the screen humor.

Here in Iowa there aren't a whole lot of people to ride dirt bikes with. I know of 200 pluw I get to ride with in 12 days because of this place!

Slo Mo, excellent thread! I joined in May 2000 also - under a different SN. Man, where to start? I initally came here because i thought I had something to offer. I quickly found that I am mostly an ignoramus when it comes to dirtbikes.

I've learned a ton of stuff here. I've met a lot of people, learned what PWI means, and I've had a couple of really good fights. Most of all, I've had a lot of fun.

I never dreamed that I would be a forum junkie. :confused:

Thanks to everyone for the laughs and for propping me up when I was having a tough time. There are people here that I talk to every day, and i miss them when they're not around.

Ok, I gotta stop now. If i don't, I'll be crying like Richard Simmons at a baby shower. :whiner:

I've learned a lot from this site, today i learnt that fork seals actually perform better under pressure, re: tying bike down, thanks.
It's great to have a site full of like minded souls, people who consider it a "good day" if they got a ride in.
People who see a rider with a problem and think " How can i help" not "should i help".
It's funny how people I've never met, I kind of feel attached too, I've had so many good laughs, and shed some tears, because of things I've read here.
It's a great site, run by great people, for great people, and thats just great!

Ditto Marcus, alot of good people. I have been comming to DRN twice -weekly for AGES, and although I dont post alot, and not many people know me, I feel like I know them.

add to it Julius letting me ride his KDX before he even knew my name

and then the "Amarillo trip"

then the Dallas SX/weekend ride.

All the rides at the farm.

Add to it Bswift's and my humorous "we'll call ourselves the Heartland Spodes" Boy has this idea grown. We now are planning to have 21 Heartland Spode members at DW.

These are the things that pretty sum up my history. It's been a ball. :yeehaw:

I can't really add to what's been said. I joined in April of this year, Thanks little brother(Moose95) for cluing me in! After all the welcome posts on my problematic and "long in the tooth" Zinger I was hooked and signed on as an STM. Should be updating to LSTM shortly, not an idle promise Okie, the funds just haven't arrived from Uncle Sugar yet ;) . The only members I know face to face so far are my brother and YZ400guy (another military officer and great friend for 8 years). There are many others that I converse with via e-mail, but it will be DW03, or a ride at LBL that I am trying to get togeather, before I meet others. Moose95 is working on a ride at H/McCoy too so that's another to add to the list. Any who, I feel as comited to this site as I do as a member of the US Army. This "Home of commited Spodes" has helped me through some rough times and good ones too, about all I can say is that it truly like an extended family. I have seen acts of tremendous(sp) generousity on here that pale in comparison to just stoping to help out with a flat. This bunch is one class act and I am proud to be a member!

I salute the mods(too numerious to name[sorry!]) and the members both LSTM, STM and regular members for your helpfull info and keeping this site what it is today.

In closing(whew!), I wish to thank Okie and his family. Okie for having the vision of this great site for us to come togeather and his family for supporting his dream.

All the new riding buddies... I had met gomer and tx246 on the racerx chat and motox757 on the freshdirt board. Since discovering DRN, I have a couple dozen new people from this area to ride with (Oklahoma is very well represented here). Most of my old racing buddies from years past have pretty much quit riding. Now there is no shortage of people to ride with and places to go. :thumb:

Justql was the first person I pm'd here. I asked him if he ever rode dunes. Boy, I couldn't of been further off on that one. If there aren't any trees around, he is totally lost. ;)

To me DRN means having to explain to my friends and family that a bunch of dirtbikers whom I've never met and swear they're not a group of big, gay men, want me to fly to Oklahoma for a week.

1. DRN gave me an outlet to greive when a riding buddy died at the end of a ride. He was riding alone. :(
2. I starting meeting riders from all over Oklahoma, TTRGuy, Smitty, and Craig_enid.
3. Okie plan to donate proceeds of a raffle to a member in need, JG. I won the Mamba! :cool:
4. Winning a bike on the internet netted me the best friends I've ever had, not just riding buddies.
5. Traveling places I've never heard of to ride with guys named, BunduBasher, Jeff Gilbert, Tigger, Danman, BigLou, Thump, Gomer, Julius Pleaser, GoSpeedRacer, AJ, Eric, Rich, and my hero, JEFF FREDDETT(Go Jeff Go).
6. Finding why the word "Support" is in Support Team, one sad day in May.
7. Knowing I'll have more fun on my vacation, 50 miles from home than anywhere else I could be, riding with Dirt junkies from DRN.
8. The info, the friends, the laughs(cleaning Pepsi off of the screen), the tears, the anger and the joy of great people around the world, not just in my back yard.
Folks, until you've seen PapaKeith flying thru a mudhole on a vintage XL500 at the side of corn field, you've never seen a smile so big in your life!
Even though I crash, get hauled in to an ER, I wouldn't miss this fun for anything.

What is it to me?

1. A font of knowledge.

2. An endless supply of friends, riding buddies and potential new ones.

3. It's the last thing I look at before going to bed and the first thing when I get up. I don't want to miss a thing!

4. It's humor, patriotism, family and temperance.

5. It's my second home and my first resource--- for just about anything.

I really miss being a part of this place everyday. :( I'm just now trying to make the time to pop my head in to see how my friends are doing, see how many new friends have joined and to get my fill of humor. :)

It is because of DRN that I have a restored faith in human beings.

I'm just speachless. Enjoy it while it lasts FJ. ;)
