Anyone know the bearing numbers for the wheels? (1998).
Do people use -2RS bearings (sealed on both sides)? This is what I normally do when the OEM is sealed on one side only or totally unsealed. Not sure here.
My 98 hasn't had a lick of maintenance done on it and I'm in the process of replacing the linkage/swingarm bearings (other thread) as several are totally seized ... which got me thinking of replacing the wheel bearings also.
I have a Pit Posse bearing puller so getting them out is easy.
What about the seperate grease seals. Looking in the manual there appears to be a seperate seal distinct from the bearing. Are these a commonly available item (from a bearing store) or only from OEM (or in the Moose kit)?
I used the OEM parts when I just mine last month. Here are all the OEM parts and numbers you will need.
Front : Bearings (2) # 601B6202UG , Grease Seal # 92049-1176 (you only need one because of the odo hardware.) , Circlip-type-C (35mm) # 481J3500.
Rear : Bearings (2) # 92045-1239 , Seals (2) # 92049-1203 , Snap Ring # 92033-1041
As far as a store to get them at? I only know the Kawa dealer so I can't help you on that one.
Thanks for the info. I just checked the rear wheel since I have it out. The manual shows the bearings being unsealed but I had -2RS. I popped the outer seals off each bearing. One bearing was fine but the other was jammed up pretty good. I just popped them both out and will go replace. Thanks. I'll get two new 6202s for the front also.
I found that it's easy to get aftermarket bearings, but the grease seals are thinner than the narrowest common seal so it's OEM for those (unless you have the seals sitting out proud from the hubs which is OK for all except the odo side seal at the front).
Get a quote for the OEM bearings first, because sometimes Kawasaki can surprise you and have certain bearings cheaper than aftermarket (I said sometimes dammit!)
