my cr 500 was giving me problems by not starting when it got hot. went riding yesterday and had the same problem with it not starting when hot, but about the last mile it really started missing or cutting out real bad, but it kept running until i got about 50 feet from the truck and it died. do you think the cdi or coil is the problem. could it be a faulty coil that was fiving me the problem when it got hot to begin with? i am open for suggestions.

A coil will do that being located where it is also above the engine
where it gets alot of heat.you should be able to check it thou with
a ohm meter. The cdi usually is farther away and doesnt cause as
much trouble, but it still could be a stator coil also getting hot.
hope this helps, and let us know what you find out.

Definatly sounds like the coil. I had a '73 Panther that would run great till you got her hot, and then you might as well shut her down and wait till it would cool off before you could get it going again. Bad coil was my problem.
