A lot of speculation over the last year has come true. Only Nutt resigns instead of being canned. Chancellor White and Coach Broyles had nothing but positive things to say on the local press conference broadcast... I'm sure the local press will be on fire tomorrow as they all final have what they have been calling for.

An era spanning 10 years will come to an end today as Houston Nutt will not return as the head football coach at Arkansas next season. The announcement was made at a 6:30 press conference Monday evening from the University of Arkansas campus.

Despite the fact that Nutt was offered a two year extension and a raise by the university, it was agreed by both parties that it is time for a change.

Houston Nutt feels the situation regarding the fan base and negativity toward his program had become too much. After careful consideration and consulting with his family, Coach Nutt leaves Arkansas with a 75-48 overall record.

Make no mistake, there will be schools interested in Houston Nutt and it's been reported for a while now that Baylor is one of them. New reports have surfaced that Georgia Tech and Ole Miss may also list Nutt as a candidate.

Nutt's buyout is reportedly in the 3.5 million dollar range.

Chancellor White said in this news conference defensive coordinator Reggie Herring will serve as interim head coach for whichever bowl game Arkansas is invited to. Incoming Athletic Director Jeff Long will be in charge of the search for the new head football coach.

So a quick re-cap, Houston Nutt officially resigned after 10 years as Arkansas head coach. The university made the official announcement during a 6:30 press conference tonight. The university believes the program is in much better shape than when Houston Nutt took over 10 years ago, but again believes it's simply time for a change.
