I am getting ready to purchase a WR 450, but I just read in REV magazine that the 450 feels "...like a long-legged and heavier open class four-stroke machine". It goes on to say that "the hadling is a bit slower and not quite as sharp as compared to last year's WR426F."

Has anyone who has ridden both the 02 and 03 got an opinion? The local dealer has an 02 426 in stock. Should I consider this bike instead of the more expensive 03 450? Are the starting problems with the 426 that bad? I am ready to buy... I need to decide soon!

The 450 has the magic button...

As for the steering, couldn't you just raise the forks a few MMs in the triple clamp to make it quicker.

I don't know if you want to put any stock in what a magazine says, but Dirt Bike has a write-up (April 2003) which compares the 426 and the 450.

The main things they said which were better on the 426:
Gas tank is reduced from 3.1 gallons to 2.6.
Cannot adjust to YZF spec cam timing.
450 feels a little top heavy in tight twisties.

The new seat-tank junction undoubtedly allows you to be more aggressive.
And I think even with the magic button it weighs the same. IMO, you certainly won't be worse off with the 450, and the e-start will be worth the extra $$$.
