xr 200 help

Powroll and BBR are the two best places to go for all your XR200R needs. I know a guy that did the 218cc stroker, along with a BBR frame kit and absolutely loved it. He raced off-road against full size bikes and was consistently on the podium. www.powroll.com www.bbrmotorsports.com

I installed a 218(or so) kit from Xr's Only in my son's '86 XR200. Siginificant power increase esp. bottom end. Definitely more fun to ride but harder to kickstart. No reliability problems, a little more vibration

Also, don't forget to change the cam chain. All of the older 200's I see need seem to need a new one. This one item can prevent all sorts of trouble down the road.

I did a modified 200 with a very high compression piston in a stock bore/stroke. I added a hot cam, valve springs, big carb, big exhaust. The bike ran very well and would top out over 80MPH. If I were to do it again, I would go for the bigger displacement on a stock cam, wich would result in the extra wheelie power I like so much. In other words, my setup was lacking in low end torque, but had plenty of top end.

Good year-solid playbike; came with (relatively) long-travel suspension, zerk fittings, lights, and an odo.

My oldest son's first man-bike was a '96 (essential similar to yours). When he grew I put the above on it off of an '85 (blown motor) and we got even more time on it/life out of it. The thing slightly better ran well with little attention like opening the airbox, hi-flo airfilter, and rejetting.

Only thing I did not like about it was the odd 17" rear wheel and tall hump-back tank typical of pre-YZWRRMFKXFCRFX strokers. A seat upholsterer did a tall foam job for it and that helped.

Put RT gold valves in the forks for neo-cartridge action. Four Strokes Only sells a muffler insert (from another bike) which opens up the exhaust but it remained relatively quiet.
