On the cover on the Motocross mag. it has the CRF250 at 216lbs. Not sure if this wet or dry, my guess is dry...I have seen sites listing the yz250f at 208lbs....This is a fairly large gap..I have heard the honda is suppose to come out weighing less than the 250f..anyone know the real story?

My '03's manual says the bike weighs without fuel but all other fluids at 224 lbs. if it was totally dry it probably wiegh more like 216. No way at 208 lbs that make it as light as a 125. That was the claimed wieght of my '02 YZ 125 without fuel and I know for fact the 250F wieghs more than it did.

Actually, the weight of 224 lbs. per the '03 manual (on page 2-1) IS with a FULL tank of fuel and oil. I think a gallon of gas weighs around 6 lbs. (?) so if you subtract out 12 lbs. for gas and another 4 lbs. for oil and coolant - you're right around 208. But I never really trust any of these "claimed" weights. From the way I understand it though, Yamaha shaved off a good 5-8 lbs. from the '02 to the '03. Maybe when Honda initially said it would weigh less that the YZF, they were comparing to the '02 YZF?

Does MXA have a CRF 250 to weigh?? No. Its all speculation. I would say the YZ250F weighs in around 215-220. I seriously doubt it weighs 208. It weighed something like 224 last year right? I think Yamaha claimed a 6 pound weight loss for 03.

If you want the shock of your life put them on a scale!! Of course once you do it you will know the truth and wont be able to go by the manufactures "claimed" weight any longer!! I think something happens to our bikes once they cross the ocean to get here. Maybe the magnetic pull from the center of the planet is stronger here then in Europe or Japan!!

Zeke is right - '03 YZ250F = 219, wet, no gas. 208lbs is the useless "dry weight" number. The target wieght for the CRF250 is 216lbs wet, no gas. This number comes from "reliable inside info" according to one of the mags. This will not be an astonishing acheivement by Honda. The aluminum frame CR's are already several pounds lighter than the competition. It stands to reason Honda's aluminum framed CRF250 will be several pounds lighter than the YZF. Why isn't the CRF450 lighter than the YZF450? 1) Yamaha had a target to shoot for. 2) Yamaha took too much off, and it seems to be affecting reliability. 3) Yamaha ripped 5th gear out of the tranny. I think Yamaha went too far to win the weight wars. I'm sure you've already heard of cracks in thin gas tanks, thin seats that allow your fanny to hit the frame rails and the infamous exploding hubs that plague the YZF's. Hondas have their own problems, but I can't think of one caused by over-dieting.

I remember Jimmy Lewis taking all the 4 storke bikes apart for cycle world. The Honda frame was not that much lighter than anything else. A pound or so.

If the bike is going to be that light, the engine is almost going to be where the weight is saved.
