I've read about crankcase airleaks and was wondering, does this produce the same sort of high reving effect as a an air leak at, say the reed block or a tear in the boot?? Has anyone had experience w/ this?? Is this usually an automatic to split the cases or are there other seals, accessible by removing side covers, which are typical problem spots here??

Any info, would be much appreciated.

Yes. A crankcase air leak can produce those same effects. Usually the crank case seals are accessable from the outside. It's more likely the magneto side seal that will leak air. the tranny side will suck in tranny oil and blow heaps of smoke if it leaks. Take off the plastic cover from the magneto and if there is lots of fuel/oil in there you probably have found your leak. To replace the seal remove the flywheel (using a puller) and you should be able to get the seal out. Careful not to damage the case though.

Thanx uts, for sharing some great technical knowledge. That definately clears up some of the things I've been hearing about crankcase airleaks. Keep the tips flowing...
