Ok guys i just rebuilt the top end on this bike, i "staggered" the rings (90 degrees) from each other, the all black ring went in the middle the letters pointing up on the rings, i did not bore the cylinder becuase it was not wore out bad at all, it barely had a little ridge in it, , now im no expert by no means when it comes to a bike im a car mechanic. But what i think is doing it is the timing i use to timing a car when you line the dots and top dead center up, but my buddy told me bikes are different and i believe him becuase i know my bikes out of time becuase its blowing air out the carb, so where should my dot on my cam gear go towards the exhaust vavle or somthing? if some one could shed some light on the subject i will be very thankfull.becuase i really miss riding my bike :bang:

Im not sure what the timing should be for this bike. A service manual should tell you everything you need. Should be able to fine one at most bike shops, probably a Clymer

81 model is I think after they moved up to CDI replacing points.
Your timing for the ignition should use an "F" mark on flywheel for Fire.
The cam chain is most likely where your off a tooth if its spitting back into the carb.
Pull off the CDI cover on the end of cam and check to see if the notch on cam is centered with the sprocket notch then look to see if it is at 12:00 straight up when the flywheel is on the "T" mark. (on the later models you have 2 lines on cam sprocket that line up horizontally with the split line on head. If you have the solid one piece head then you line up at 12:00) Hopefully no valve damage if it was off.
fatboy is right, you should get a manual to verify things.
