96 Rm 250 ?

well my first post..hope im in the right spot.
heres the deal. i recently purchased a 96 rm 250. (no spark)
cdi unit is bad. in a nut shell i have a unit from a 01 rm 250.
the difference beeing one wire.
all the plugs are the same. the main plug from the harness on the 96 has one less wire on it, however, they both use the same plug.
i have noticed throught the years that the color orange usualy means spark, and you guessed it, the extra wire is orange from the 01.
my ? is how or can i make this cdi unit work? they are 3 hun from the dealer.
