99 Yz400f Clutch Problem

I just bought a '99 yz400f this spring. I replaced the clutch cable because it was shot. I noticed before I put the cable on the clutch seemed really stiff and hard to pull. With the new clutch cable it seems even worse. Is it the way the clutch is adjusted or do I have something wearing out in the clutch? The pull is about 3 times as hard as my '01 250f.

Lube your cable and check the routeing or for burns.

My 98 was real stiff.

maybe the previous owner put in a aftermarket clutch with heavy springs?

Also check the lever and perch for dirt or being too tight. Also check the actuator arm on the cases and lube.

Do a search on clutch pull there was just a big post about YZF clutch and how to make your lower clutch arm longer. Hope this helps it helped my bike alot

the yz400 clutch was never easy to begin with even when new but with a bike like that you shouldn't be using the clutch too much anyway
