I was just wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are of bikes over quads.I know bikes are more fun and better in a lot of ways but I want to hear your opinion on the subject.
thanx

ATV's make a wonderful pit bike for the wife to get around on. They are also good for pulling broken down bikes back from the track to the Pits.
The EMT's seem to like them.

The rest of us, well, let me just refer you to the first two responses.

sorry for asking but I just needed to know because I have to do a report about bikes and quads and which is better.alot of people in my class are dissing bikes and saying quads are better so I thought if I had some input from people besides myself it would be more convincing.you know that old saying two heads are better that one?the only reason I asked here is that i know I could get acurate info unlike if I would have gone to say dirtbike.com they would have made something up and added a few swears.one kid there is still trying to tell me that a blue powerband is better than a black one.
I guess I shouldn't have asked.

Oh in that case we could help out we just thought that youn were a ATV lover. Well a bike is not as heavy as a atv so when it falls on you it does not hurt as much. Less moving parts. Also tell them why do they not ride dirt bikes is it because they do not know how to ride on two wheels yet:p .

me an atv lover:) :)
I hate how so many people ride them with no helmet and you always see atv's with 2 or 3 people on them.quads and bikes are often put in the same group by the media and I hate that because most dirtbikers respect the fact that they can get hurt so they take precautions against that.I don't know if this is the way it is every were but out here I don't think I have seen one person on a quad wearing a helmet.

Well, now that you state the REAL purpose for your comparison. Let us give you some somewhat biased opinions.
1. ATV's and dirtbikes come in both 4 stroke and 2 stroke models.
2. ATV's are easy to operate, even when the skill level of the operator is low.
3. ATV's give a false sense of safety, they weigh in excess of 450 lbs.
4. Unfortunately, many operators of ATV's feel compelled to operate them without wearing ANY saftey gear and the use of alcohol is not uncommon.
5. ATV's offer the user a utility platform that is versatile and reliable.
6. Dirtbikes require coordination, balance, and judgement.
7. Dirtbikes are nimble and relative lite weight compared to ATV's, in the 220 lb range.
8. Dirtbike operators tend to wear as much safety equipment that they can acquire and the use it.
9. Dirtbikes can go into very tight places in the woods with ease.
10. Dirtbikes work muscles in the body that you didn't know you had. Arobic intensity and strength levels are tested every time you ride.
11. The grin factor is the best. You can be sore, tired, dirty, beat up and you will still smile and say that was great.
Does this help? I have both but I prefer BIKES. I frequent DRN because the members talk about BIKES. Any more BIKE questions?
There have been attempts by rogue members to discuss ATV's, which is fine, just please do it someplace else.:uh:

Down side to a quadrapedical offroad vehicle.

  • They take up space in the garage that could be used for something cool like several dirt bikes.
  • You need a large vehicle or trailer to haul them.
  • You need a much wider trail to ride them through.
  • When you flip them over you have a MUCH higher risk of badness happening.
  • You have to buy 4 tires instead of 2.
  • You get associated with the rest of the drunk, toothless, backwards gimme cap wearing fools that choose them as their mode of transport through every mud puddle in the parking lot.
  • There is no DRN equivilant for you.

Please note that one of my favorite people on DRN is a rider of these machines, - love ya' "Mom".:)

My grandma can drive an ATV. It's just an oversized riding lawnmover. Can't say the same about her controlling a dirt bike. How much coordination, strength and endurance does it take to drive an ATV? :p

If I was uncoordinated, half blind and lame I might consider an ATV for fun. What a minute, I might just qualify

I hear you there about people on quads who don't wear gear and are stupid on them. I have a friend who traded in his RM250 for a quad, and I wanted to beat him up. He says that he gets hurt too much on dirt bikes and that quads are safer which isn't true, and now he doesn't wear any gear ever. Even a helmet!! I tell him he is a accident waiting too happen, but he like your just mad because my bike is cooler than yours, bla, bla, bla. I'm going to take his spark plug out of his quad (not bike like he likes to call it) and he won't know what is going on. It will be funny:p.

Anyways on to your paper. I say dirt bikes are better because they are more powerfull,(from what I understand) lighter, you can jump them much farther and do much sicker tricks and stuff on them. Also they not only are better on tracks and jumps they are also better on trails because they are not nearly as wide and the are easier to turn, but that doesn't mean that they are easier to ride.

And for my opinion I just don't like them! They are hard to turn, you can't jump them anything like you can a dirt bike(I would like to see a quad hit a 100 foot double at the X Games and do a rodeo or something while they're at it), they are hard to turn, basicly all the reasons I already said in the 2nd paragraph and more.

My problem with ATV's is that the leave a very wide trail as compared to a bike in the woods. when the trails are that wide it isn't much of a challenge in my opinion.

I have nothing against ATV use in general I just wish people would act more responsibly than I have witenessed on occasion, because like it or not the public does lump us all together as off road hooligans who need to be controlled. I have an ATV that I use around my property for hauling all kinds of stuff, never have taken it trailriding.

Wizard69, you should feel fortunate that you followed up on your post. The intensity of the replys has been somewhat tempored. Just a tip, though, we encourage everyone to attemp using proper grammer and punctuation. Capitalization and spelling is nice, as well. We are not English teachers but we can see bit more intelligence in posts that have grammatical correctness and punctuation. Give it a try, you'll get quality info. This is not to say you won't get ripped if you spout out bull and people know it. ;)

You know the saying about ATV's and, um, well...big un's? Both are fun to ride, but don't let your friends see you on one. I know, that was bad:debil:
