I have an '00 CR250 and I just replaced the basket and have a whole new set of steel discs/friction plates/springs. The problem is that the inner/outer hubs look worn on the surfaces that mate with the friction plates. How worn can these be before they need replacing or does it matter?

I also had an idea, if you eliminated (1) friction plate at one end of the stack and added (2) steel plates at the other end there would be no friction on the aluminum hubs. Since the friction plates are twice as thick as the steel the stack height would be the same. The only downside would be that there would only be (7) friction plates instead of (8). Has anyone tried this?
