I live in KC, but my dad lives in Colorado Springs. I'm planning a trip out there over memorial day weekend (or possibly the prior weekend). I'd really love to bring my bike along with me if I can find someone to ride with. Anyone want to do some trail riding with me for a day?? I'm kind of a noob so you'd have to take it easy, but I'm not that bad...

*edit* I'm DEFINITELY going to be out there the weekend BEFORE memorial day... If no one wants to show me around, any reccomendations on where I could do some trail riding??

thanks,

Brian

Check out Rampart Range. It's about 20 or 30 minutes North of Col. Springs, just west of Sedalia. There is over 100 miles of trails that are well marked and well groomed. You should be able to find plenty of information on the web.

YamaB - Rampart Range, as RedThumper suggested is a popular place for alot of riders, especially those near Denver that prefer trail riding. A closer (and supposedly less crowded) area is in Woodland Park, which is about 15-20 minutes west of Colorado Springs. I'm dying to ride there, so let me know what day(s) are good fro you and perhaps we can get a ride together. Please note: you will need to get a OHV sticker. They are $15.25 and are good for 1 year. I'll try to post the link in a later post.

Other places to ride are basically tracks like Aztec (Co. Springs - a fee is req'd), PMI (Pueblo - free and lots of open riding in open area) and several others up north.

I suggest you keep an eye on our sub-forum Mile High for group rides, even if it is slow at the moment. Also check out SRAC

Saturday May 22nd is probably when I'll be free to do some riding... I'm only staying saturday and sunday and am going to the AMA Super Bike races at PPIR sunday.

Is that OHV sticker something you can get at a dealership?? I wonder if that is something that I can just have my dad pick up for me prior to my arrival...

Please drop me an email if anyone want to meet up... If I can't find anyone, I'll probably just leave the dirt bike at home and bring my mountain bike (dad lives a few minutes from Palmer Park)...

thanks,

Brian

YamaB: The sticker isn't sold at dealerships. You have to either go to the Colorado OHV Park HQ or work with them via mail. Unfortunately, you can't purchase a new one on-line - only renewals are done over the internet.

Here's the link:Colorado OHV

Surf around there - there is a FAQ section that may help.

Myself and aceyduecy2000 will try to hit Woodland Park this weekend. I'll let you know how it is.

HomeMadeSin,

Do you know if the snow is melted up there yet?

No riding for me for another two or three weeks. I banged up my wrist back in January. Wasn't bad, but it didn't get any better. Finally got to see a specialist. Result was torn ligament in my wrist. Had arthroscopic surgery on it, and now I'm waiting for it to heal up.

YamaB,

I'll probably be ready to go by then. I'm a noob also, but willing to try most anything.

Hey Scott! Sorry to hear about the wrist. Did you ride with us at Pueblo with a bad wrist?

I don't know about the snow just yet. I know alot of guys have been hitting Rampart Range and say it's pretty decent, so I just figured Woodland Park was ok. I was going to do some poking around to find out.

I'm sitting on the sidelines too. Haven't quite figured out what my problem is yet, but so far all the tests come back normal. I'm gonna sit out this weekend too I think and try to exercise in the meantime.

Your definately on the list, just haven't ridden since I saw you at Pueblo. I just got the beast back together, so I'm just waiting until I feel fit enough to hand on....

Yep. I bought my KDX on 12/31, rode it the first time on 1/1, and banged it up then. Like I said, it wasn't really bad - I pretty much had full range of motion and everything, but it didn't improve. My regular doctor tried to tell me it was just tendonitis, and he didn't want to refer me to a specialist. When I finally got to the specialist, torn ligament was the diagnosis, and the surgery confirmed it. Doc is pretty confident it is all fixed. I hope so, because if it isn't, the next procedure is pretty ugly.

So yes, I have riding this whole time with that injury. Doc says to stay off the bike for about a month. I should be ready to go the middle of May.

I will be going to San Diego to visit my family, and I am bringing the bikes. Just as soon as Ryan's school lets out. He can't wait.
