Is it just me or is anyone else really impressed with Travis Preston's 4th place ride? You didnt here much about him on t.v. but I was very surprised.

547, your silence is admirable, but I can't do it. CR vs RC straight up, Skippy got within 2 seconds, RC grabbed a handfull, roosted CR and motored away. Track looked gnarly, these guys are my heros. :worship:

Great fun, live in Florida aboutn an hour from Daytona, made it home in time to watch the broadcast!!!!!!

Great racing all around. DV was on the ground a long time after his heat race
crash but got up under his own power and made to the track ATV. They took him
to the hospital to get checked out.

The 125 final was great, Jesseman and Brown were running consistanly the
same speed and both flirted with disaster more than once. Brown won by around
6 seconds. The big difference was Brown was about 6 seconds faster recovering
from his crash than Jesseman was. It looks like the 125 riders need to start
practicing crash recovery just like NASCAR parctices pit stops. Both were silly
mistake crashes. It looked like Jesseman just gave it a little to much gas coming
out of a corner, the front got light came out of the rut and lost traction. Brown
dropped into a deep rut and didn’t keep his foot high enough, it got stuck down in
the rut and basically pulled him half off the bike causing him nose dive in a slow
corner.

RC and Reed both road like they were from another planet. Reed had the fastest lap (maybe 2) and was faster than RC for the first 5 laps, but couldn’t quite keep the pace. RC was consistantly FAST. Travis Preston !!!! came in 4th and both RC and Reed lapped him. Whoa!!! I wish Bubba had tried 250s at Daytona just to see how he stacks up to RC, but I don’t think he could have done much better than Preston. Ferry and Lusk were both very fast also, but Yogi took a short break to check out the flavor of the local soil, dropped back to 10th (I think) and had a hard time getting back in the hunt. He made it back to 5th but just wasn’t going as fast as he had been.

(For some reason my router will not allow long post to any internet forum so I had to break it in two.)

Of all the places for Reed to finally get a good start and a chance to go head to head with RC, it would have to be Daytona... I was actually quite surprised Reed stayed as close as he did, even turning some faster laps than RC. I hope them two get that kind of start at a few other venues so maybe we can see a race for 20 laps. I don't care which one of them wins, I just want to see a race.

Also, I think some guys are just a tad harsh on Reed for not routinely beating Carmichel. It is his "rookie" season in 250 Supercross. I'm pretty impressed that the guy can even give Carmichael a challenge this soon. While I know the argument is he has ridden 250's in Europe for a while, it's still not like riding in US Supercross against the talent that we've got. I mean, heck, even if you hate Reed, at least root for him to give RC a challenge during the Supercross season, cause once it goes back outdoors...

I still can't believe that Carmichael almost lapped 3rd place Ferry! JFC, what's wrong with the rest of the field besides RC and Reed??

I especially enjoyed the battle they showed between Bradshaw and Bayle from 1990.. Now THAT was some good racing! :aj:

I doubt vacation, but they are off... unless they ride the 250 (Preston, Short, etc).

I don't know if it was the conditions, or what, but the track left a lot to be desired IMHO, there really didn't seem to be a rhythm to be found... some of the combinations weren't doable, etc. Maybe it's just me, but I think that may be part of the reason some normally fast guys got lapped. Technical is one thing, rough is another, but it just seemed like the layout was odd.

IMO, RC's ride was one of the most impressive in SX history. Lapping up to 3rd in the 250 main - has it ever happened before? If RC had not put it into cruise mode, he would have lapped Ferry, also.

Shoot, RC lapped more than 1/2 the field at least twice! Some of those guys getting lapped twice could show up at any local track in the USA with their practice bike and smoke every local pro. RC is incredible.

Reed clearly brought his A game, but nobody was going to beat Ricky yesterday. If Bubba had been out there, RC probably would have lapped him, too.

BTW, I don't mean to give the impression that I hate Reed, I am just sooo impressed with Ricky's speed, drive, and fitness. I also agree with Okie about the track,it had the best in the world looking like me out there, singling doubles rolling combinations, it must have been way rough. :flame:

Man, going from this thread it sounds like it was a close battle between RC and Reed. Of course it just happens to be the only race SXGP didn't do a live webcast for! Typical. :(

So how far behind did Reed finish?

Reed finished 15 seconds behind Carmichael.. Closer than it sounds, third place was 65 seconds behind Reed! Fourth was way back behind 3rd, lapped by both RC and Reed.

I agree with Okie the track looked really bad. You know RC had to be licking his chops when he saw it. That was more of a bad MX track than a SX track.
As far as Reed I think his MC style is more suited for SX so he shouldn't feel bad about his finish. RC conditioning and MX skills put him above and beyond everyone else. Did anyone else notice when most guys slowed to 1:40 lap times RC was still turning below 1:30. I guess them dunlops were hooking up.

It was not close at all. After a brief early threat from Reed, RC was long gone. The gap at the end would have been much larger if Ricky had kept the hammer down. Five laps from the end, RC could have stopped for a refreshment and to sign autographs and he still would have won.

Reed was absolutely flying and riding at or near his very best, but he had nothing for RC this week.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks the track was bad. What a terrible layout, and a boring race to watch. RC , CR and Tim Ferry made it look like they had gated up with the 250c class. All the other riders were just rolling through the jumps and trying to survive.

In post race interviews Chad has admitted he got his butt kicked by RC....no excuses. But he talking like he's gonna try and biuld up for one last run....thats positive at least.

I didn't see the race, so I'm just going off what I've read so far. But doesn't a poor track layout once in a while make it a bit more interesting maybe? I think that's what I like about Nationals. It's always different from one race to the next. Supercross races, on the other hand, just look so boiler-plated. There's no mystique to any given race. No Nostalgia. No history. It's not man against nature, it's man against (bulldozer x stadium dimensions). I'm not saying the tracks aren't different from the rider's perspective, but from my perspective they could all be held in Anaheim. And what fun is that?

Besides, they all raced the same track. Maybe this just revealed how much better RC is than the rest of the field, at least in his ability to quickly adapt to different conditions? Maybe the track was just that much more difficult than a regular stadium?
